Enchanting, riveting, breathtaking.

What can I say that has not yet been said? A well written and captivating mistery in a fantasy backdrop that will keep you wondering whodunit.
At one point I had tears streaming down my face and had to strengthen myself with a dram... SJM readers will know this started in the last +/- 20% of the book and it didn't relent untill shortly before the end... a wild ride. In a few days I'll start nr.2 and can't wait for nr.3.

Bryce and Danica friendship

I loved this book. I'm really picky about what I read and I didn't have any expectations, but somehow I fully immersed myself and ended up liking it way more than I thought. Don't get me wrong, it's not perfect. And I can see how others wouldn't like it, it certainly has its flaws. but I do not care. it was light hearted and it was gut wrenching at times. I loved how the relationship between danica and bryce was portrayed and how it showed how deep and important platonic friendship is, how it can be so intense it rises above romantic relationships. I love how the book portrayed loss and grief and shame and didn't shy away to show the depths of depression and suicidal idiation.
I'm excited to listen to the next one

Light it up

Das Buch hatte ich vor einigen Jahren bereits gelesen und habe das Hörbuch als Refresh als Einstieg für den zweiten Band gehört. Die Umsetzung ist super, auch wenn mir stellenweise schon zuviel gestrichen wurde. Wer jedoch weiß, wie dick das Buch ist, hat dafür sicherlich Verständnis. Ich kann das Hörbuch wirklich empfehlen.

Endlich bei Audible.de vorhanden

Zwei Jahre nach Erscheinen des amerikanischen Hörbuchs, kann man diesen Titel auch auf audible,de hören. Als ich dieses Hörbuch gelesen von Elizabeth Evans dem Support vorgeschlagen habe, wollte die Mitarbeiterin mir weiß machen, dass es doch vorhanden sei (auf Deutsch...). Nichts gegen Übersetzungen, aber das manche Audible Mitarbeiter nicht verstehen, dass es Kunden gibt, die wirklich gerne englischsprachige hören wollen...
Jedenfalls, ist Sarah J. Maas' House of Earth and Blood, Crescent City, Book 1" sehr spannend und super gelesen von Elizabeth Evans, die schon Maas' "Throne of Glass" fantastisch gelesen hat, eine klare Empfehlung für Fantasyfans. Sarah J. Maas schafft es ihre Charaktere lebendig wirken zu lassen und erzählt eine "Urban-Fantasy" Geschichte mit Krimielementen.

Great story!

Very well written and got me hooked. Loved the deep friendship and feelings created and the values of the protagonists. A few unexpected turns and genuinely a great book 👌🏽

First sentence: There was a wolf at the gallery door.
Last sentence: Not when things are about to get so interested.

Well … “holy fuck” might sum this up the best?! The last 200 pages got me on the edge of my seat.
I fell in love with Bryce so fast. She isn’t perfect in a long shot, but she is someone who cares deeply. Her friends are her world, losing them destroyed her. But her want for revenge was strong enough to keep her alive. Somehow. The moment she gets send on the mission to figure out what truly happened two years ago, she starts to get a spark back. Having Hunt at her side annoys her to no end at the beginning, but I have to say, it was quite entertaining to watch these two work together.
I did not see all the twists and turns coming. Sarah did quite a good job with that. I admire how all the oracles words came back into the story and how they really meant something.

I am not okay with the fact that this ended

Was I a big fan of this at first? No.
Did I pull through the start and started enjoying it more and more? Absolutely.

The start felt so slow to me. Especially since it was quiet long and I feared the whole story would be lengthy and boring at times.

We're all wrong at times, right? Because I definitely was.

Once I really got into the story I was hooked. I enjoyed the modern setting of Crescent City a lot and once I got at better grip of the magic system things got easier to understand. Even though this book had it's issues with explaining the way things work as fell. A phenomenon that I encounter in many of her books.

Once the mystery really started I fell in love with the story and it get truly addicting. Hunt and Bryce lurred me into the story and trapped me there till the end. Not a single second of this was boring and I developed such a strong bond with some of the characters that I was devestated when I finished.

When the ending hit and horrible things happened I almost broke out into tears while listening to the audiobook on a public train before work - we are dramatic over here, okay?

I finished on my walk home from work and I can tell you. My throat hurt like hell from holding back tears for the entire walk.

Huge recommendation for basically everyone. This basically was fantasy, romance and mystery combined. Amazing experience.

I think I found my new favorite book!!!

I’m fairly new to Goodreads and my sister encouraged me to write a review. 😘
So here we go… since I hate spoilers, there will be non in it.


Crescent City - for me it’s like CSI (or at least case solving) meets fantasy, meets romance, may be a little Star Wars (because of the multitude of different creatures and possibilities)…
It’s realistic suspense, tragedy, love, hate, deep deep friendships, heartache and so much more.

There is so much good suspense. You can’t stop reading/listening and it’s not just sexual tension that’s greatly written, although there is some of that too… 😜 it’s not just the “raw” getting it on, which I think ruins a lot of great books if it starts too early in a story.

I can’t tell you which part of the book I enjoyed the most?!
Was it, that SJM, let you into the minds of multiple characters - not just one or two?
Or was it the part that you just wanted to solve the mystery of the case???
Or the crying for almost 10 chapters? 😅

I’m someone who almost always knows the outcome of a story. I do love to say “haaaaa, I knew it!” - I enjoy to solve a good puzzled story that’s not to obvious.
And although I did get to guess most the different outcomes in this book, I was surprised by one key thing, that made me cry so much. Looking back there have been clues, but they were well hidden and I do love to be wrong or totally surprised as well as being right.

Since I already liked the ACOTAR series a lot, I was expecting something similar, but in my opinion, SJM wrote this story in a much better way!!! I was never annoyed with any of the characters. The opposite, I like that they are not always likable.
After book two of ACOTAR I was craving another pov. And sometimes I felt like the pacing was off. So Crescent City was perfect for me.

I hope everyone enjoys it as much as me. I’m going to start on the second book right away.
