a good but light read

this is a well-structured fantasy novel, and, refreshingly, with a female protagonist. however, sometimes the structure seems obvious and the characters are stereotypical in their heteronormativity and personas. all in all it is a light and quite nice read.

the reading itself is excellent. Michael Kramer has an incredibly agreeable voice and his voice acting is good and diverse.

Interessant, intelligent, spannend, überraschend

Sanderson ja eigentlich bekannt für seinen voluminösen Erzählstil der dem Hörer schon einiges an Geduld abverlangt, die jedoch durch die Faszination seiner akribisch ausgemalten Welten und Charaktere belohnt wird.
Dennoch möchte ich es noch mal erwähnen! Mit einem vorzüglichen Sprecher wie Michael Kramer wird es nie langweilig.
Die Welt, das Magiesystem, die Figuren - hochintelligent - kein einziger Anfall von Schablonen oder Schwarz-und-Weissmalerei. Wenn sich auch nur der Hauch von Vorhersagbarkeit einstellt, dann sorgt Sanderson promt für überraschende Wendungen, die einem mit stockendem Atem zurücklassen.
Faszinierend und spannend - wirklich bis zum absolut nicht vorhersagbaren Schlussepilog!

richtig gut

eigentlich habe ich diesen sanderson nur gekauft, weil ich seinen schreibstil kennenlernen wollte, denn er schreibt ja Wheel of time zu ende. erstmal hat sich mir die ganze geschichte nicht erschlossen, ich fand keinen zugang. dann habe ich es liegen lassen und jetzt wieder angehört und siehe da: mir gefällt es richtig gut. es ist eine düstere welt, die sanderson beschreibt aber mit sehr guten eigenständigen ideen. hörenswert.

My Second Sanderson series

This has been my first Sanderson book after reading Skyward and Starsight.

These are ofcourse entirely different worlds and settings, but i was not disappointed with my high expectations.

The book starts of in a slight confusing way. Throwing stuff at you that you dont understand because it hasn't been explained yet. But as you keep reading it all starts to make sense.

The characters while not all of them memorable, were great and kept me interested.

The Worldbuilding in this was phenomenal and i really loved getting all these tiny bits of information and piecing them together.

The story, maybe not the most original, still was executed greatly with its own twists and emotional moments. Even some laughs.

The ending leaves things open and keeps you wondering about different kinds of stuff. Many questions unanswered.

But thankfully, there's more books in this mistborn universe to read.

All in all, i loved it. The action was good, i loved the magic system and while confusing and strange at the beginning it all unfolded perfectly.

I highly recommend it.

Power-Creep Yo Ho!

TL;DR: This book did not make me want to get another one of the series. I was almost relieved when it ended.

Mild spoilers ahead, beware!

The main character is suffering from severe power-creep. At the end, all of this power buildup is explained by simple heritage, even the BBEG is more developed than she. Some details are so worn-out that you wonder if they were meant to have some meaning.

"Oh, I forgot that you are supposed to be Underage and we just discovered that I need to be older than that other character so - just let us have a discussion about our age difference so the reader does not think we forgot about that. We can ignore it afterwards. Also it is important to note that your decollete is no longer as flat as we made an effort to point out the last few times we had no reason to speak about it" (this is obviously an exaggeration, but that this has so firmly logged into my mind should show that this a problem with the writing)

The most compelling thing about Mistborn is it's magical system. The author really made an effort to describe the inner workings of allomancy but promptly goes on a rampage by stacking additional exceptions on top because he remembered that the main character was now at an insuperable disadvantage.

This book started out to be a hard science fiction take on fantasy with a world that has social and racial problems that are so close to our real world that I really started to feel uncomfortable (in a: I feel for this people way), that is until Space Jesus and his Wonderdog fly in and save the day by the laying on of hands.

I think maybe If I just gave the next book a Chance I would start to like this Series but at the Moment it feels like a Chore. I had high hopes for this book since it was basically described to me as "the Martian" but in Fantasy.

exceptionally good

This is an exceptionally good novel.
It has a coherent magic system, I know some of you care about this. And it puts two loads more plot, alone into the first book than expected.

Brandon Sanderson keeps a high quality throughout this title.

Michael Kramer is a great reader. Marvellously explored characters and a beautifully put voice. Every character gets their story ensounded in his interpretation and the general background is established throughout all characters on a deeper and sound level.

I recommend this book for the voice of Michael Kramer if you don't care about story and for the story and the voice if you are after a few days of enduldging in fantasy.

great story

It took some time to get used to the voice actor but in the end I would not switch him for anybody else.
The magic arts are very different in this story to anything I have read before. It is amaizing how getting used to it along side the characters gets your mind engaged!
