Wonderful insights on being a writer by one of the best writers of suspense and horror, narrated by himself. I laughed a lot, King has the right kind of humor to get through the ups and downs of life. His personal stories were more interesting to me in 2023 than the technical stuff, because a lot has changed since 1997/2001. No floppy discs (:D), no paper trail, and self-publishing has become a lot easier since ebooks are available broadly and people are used to read on their phones or tablets. So there are alternatives to publishers and agents. And I skipped the last two parts by Owen and Joe. Just not interesting enough for me, and they kind of killed the vibe of the epilogue.
But I take with me the core of this book: Writing is magic. It's about making others and yourself happy. So, let's do some magic!

Entertaining Memoir

Alle, die schreiben, sollten dieses Hörbuch hören. Egal ob Anfänger oder Fortgeschrittene. Es wird euer Leben bereichern. Es geht nicht nur um das Handwerk an sich, sondern um so viel mehr. Auch für Fans sehr empfehlenswert, denn ihr bekommt einen Einblick, wie Stephen King seine Bücher schreibt. Last but not least : gelesen vom Autor. So soll ein gutes Hörbuch sein.

However wants to write or just wants to know, how one great writer of our time does his work, should definitely listen to this audio book. It was an even greater pleasure, that Mr King itself, read it for you. And maybe you have a different opinion about that, but I could listen to him all day. I would highly appreciate it, if he would record all of his books by himself. I know that would be too much work but it would be great.

King not only knows how to write stories, he also is an expert in telling others how to do it. I really liked that part of the book. However, these little anecdotes from his early life he broadly presents diminish the fun in listening to this audio. Dito, the parts written by his kids. Obviously King is very devoted to his family, but I would have preferred to listen to more writig advice instead of giving his family the chance to shine (which they didn't take, by the way)

Am amazed with how a theoretical book on writing with King’s extraordinary talent turns into a ln alive almost human creature that you want to get to know and love. An absolute must if you want to write.
