Awesome book about the beginning of the empire

This book is a slow burn and Valdor is not the the protagonist. He’s at the center of the plot, but there are only a few scenes from his viewpoint. That could be disappointing to some people. But we have two of the best female characters in the Horus Heresy one of which is the protagonist. She has so much depth. Plus we get awesome insights into the beginning of the empire. This is the first time the Thunderwarriors are at the center of a story. Plus we get lots of hints at the development of the space marines. Not as much action, as other Warhammer books, which is a plus to me. But it’s never boring, I almost read it in one sitting. Awesome worldbuilding and characters, clear recommendation.

A lot of interesting lore facts but a mid story

It is a bit of a disappointment that a novel titeld Valdor doesn't have much Valdor in it. If you are interested in how excatly the thunder warriors were ended and how the Space Marine and Primachrs were created then its worth a listen.

Gotta say tough not my favorite voice actor.

good background Story, just like parts of the cawl-book.
interesting to delve into the beginnings, with a few seltenes here and there to spin the backstory.
would love a continuation of this series.

Nothing but backstory

Despite being called Valdor, the man himself doesn't feature much and the novel focuses on characters who's viewpoint has not been used before or since. Not what I was hoping to find, since Valdors character doesn't really received any further development.

This novel merely does the job of actually spelling out parts of the backstory that were merely mentioned in passing in other works and whilst it can be interesting to find out how they played out exactly, I myself do not find the experience greatly enriching.

This is the backstory of how they ended the Thunder Warriors and started the Space Marines. Oh yes, and Valdor has a few scenes in there too.

Ja in der Geschichte geht es um die Änfänge des Imperiums. Valdor ist in der Geschichte eine Hauptfigur, aber über seinen Charakter oder seine Vorgeschichte ist wenig neues zu erfahren. Hier wäre meiner Meinung nach mehr möglich gewesen vor allem durch die Befragungen von Valdor.

Uninteresting

I think its a rather boring audiobook. Valdor is not the main actor. He is not very interesting nor is his development within the novel or in the background described.

The voice actor is not to blame. He does a decent job.
