Inhaltsangabe
High school nemeses fall in love in Kelly Quindlen's She Drives Me Crazy, a queer YA rom com perfect for fans of Becky Albertalli and Casey McQuiston.
What happens when two high school nemeses fall in love?
Seventeen-year-old Scottie Zajac can’t catch a break.
First there’s the embarrassing loss to her ex-girlfriend in their first basketball game of the season, and then she gets into a fender bender with the worst possible person: her head cheerleader nemesis, Irene Abraham.
Irene is as mean as she is beautiful, and Scottie makes a point to keep her distance, only their little car accident means the girls are forced to ride together to school. Every day.
But when an opportunity arises for Scottie to get back at her toxic ex – and climb her school’s social ladder – she convinces Irene to take part in an elaborate fake-dating scheme that threatens to reveal some very real feelings.

Really cheered me up!
I always stated that I don't like music references in books but actually that's not true. Because it's done perfectly here!
I felt so at home with the red haired teenage basketball player Scottie who drives a bumped up car and listens to "Purple Rain" and other classics. The story is told from her pov and has everything that matters to her pictured so well. The high school experience, feeling like you not belong, being bullied, being celebrated, sports and the will to go out of your way to succeed. Her family loves her fiercely and all her friends try to pick up her pieces after a not so healthy relationship.
You could call Irene, the cheerleader, the other side of the medal. But really? "Don't ever make assumptions about me" Irene tells Scottie. Because she has her own struggles and valid problems and hurt feelings even if everyone tends to not look behind her facade.
And "Cheerleaders are athletes too" Hell yes, they are! Have you ever tried a flic flac and tossing a girl in the sky? I have and it's f*cking brilliant but hard!
Scottie and Irene are a pairing that clashes because of their differences and attitudes but fit so well if you take away the made up reasons to hate each other. I loved the references to their favorite movies and songs and watching them doing Halloween decorations and watching Christmas lights. A whole senior year at Grandma Earl High.
I am also really into the fake dating trope, because you know where it leads. But She drives me crazy didn't go straight where I thought it would. There were bumbs and turns in the road and it was beautiful!
