The narration was horrible

Why did she make the fmc sound like a whiney child? And the mmc like an old man with that weird stutter/rasp?
This made the already kind of boring story incredibily unberable.
I don’t know if I‘ll continue this series. But surely not with the audio version.

Sublime story🪭

I loved the story line and the world building. Even though it’s a fantasy, the plot, characters, powers and story is never confusing.
However I didn’t like the accent for the main female character 🫤 kind of annoying at times. Besides the narrators sounded funny when they were trying to do 2 other characters (especially a female to male voice).

Narration is terrible

When I listened, I hated the fmc, she was so Whiney. No body else actually displayed emotions speaking. Read the book later, that was really nice

Wonderful story ❤️

I really enjoyed the first book. And will jump directly to the second. There is so much love, sorrow, anger and so much more in the story and the characters.
I waited so long to start the series because I prefer more spice in books. Nevertheless, I can only recommend it!

I heard the audiobook parallel with the book. Unfortunately, the audiobook doesn't deserve 5 stars from me. It was ok in my opinion.
I was not so bothered by the points that some other comments had mentioned: that the female speaker speaks with a childlike voice [but I can understand the opinions on it very much] or that the male narrator speaks quickly [ turn down speed for the chapter ;) ].
What had bothered me more with the male voice were the strongly audible inhalations throughout the chapters.

A Fantasy Epos

There's so much story in this one book! Tesannahs live chances and chances again. We start at the night she tries to buy her freedom from being a slave and a concubine. A thing man can look at and who dances for their pleasure.
But you wouldn't believe where she is about a year later! Her journey turns out to be a large plot and she is given opportunity but also great danger. Will she be able to protect her goals, her friends? Or will she be overpowered? Is she a girl, a woman, a fighter, a mage, a witch, a monster?

I really liked the pov of an immigrant main character. She has to learn the new language and struggles a lot with words but it's so understandable!

Max pov was devastating. He is a broken man and still not giving up. "I'm not made for this." made me laugh so hard after he used it on warm weather, cold weather, crowds, sea, conversations, everything. Max, what are you made for afterall? I very much like him.

The magic is very strong in this world and a lot of it is about learning how to use it and what happens inside their minds and how it feels to use magic. I'm so sad I'll never have that myself. But great writing!

Both narrators are awful

Story is not toi bad, but the narrators…. Her cadence made me cringe and he was rushing each sentence to a peak as if something dramatic Mighty happen (but did not) until I felt like I needed to take a breath on his behalf.

Wow

This audiobook was amazing. Impeccable reading and intriguing story. I love the two main characters and how their relationship develops in this first book. Very excited for the next book.

Amazing first half!

Major probs to the narrator! To hold a fictional accent for half a book consistently is no small feat. I really loved the slowness of the first half, especially everything that happened in Max' cottage! I'm not the biggest fan of the whole Roshaye thing tho. Still hyped for part two!
