THE #1 SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER

TLS, OBSERVER, SUNDAY TIMES, FT, GUARDIAN, DAILY MAIL AND EVENING STANDARD BOOKS OF THE YEAR 2017

Sleep is one of the most important aspects of our life, health and longevity and yet it is increasingly neglected in twenty-first-century society, with devastating consequences: every major disease in the developed world - Alzheimer's, cancer, obesity, diabetes - has very strong causal links to deficient sleep.

In this audiobook, the first of its kind written by a scientific expert, Professor Matthew Walker explores twenty years of cutting-edge research to solve the mystery of why sleep matters. Looking at creatures from across the animal kingdom as well as major human studies, Why We Sleep delves into everything from what really happens during REM sleep to how caffeine and alcohol affect sleep and why our sleep patterns change across a lifetime, transforming our appreciation of the extraordinary phenomenon that safeguards our existence.

Includes a bonus PDF of graphs and diagrams.

The book itself is 5/5 stars, the audiobook is 4 stars only. The narrator takes his intention to allow the listener to doze off too seriously and reads this book way too calmly. This is especially appearant when one section suddenly becomes more drowzy than the previous one, and I can't even hear him anymore over the wind noises during my bicycle ride.

Anyway, back to the book. This has the potential to become a revolution and I for one am willing to be part of it. I solemnly promise to take the advice seriously, the evidence the author presents for the benefits of an 8+ hour sleep is overwhelming. Great book, probably changed my life for the better

Voice too calm, content amazing
