In the Royal States of America, magic rules all, but life—and love—always finds a way.

Latent horse empath.

Dishwasher. Closet chef. Future king.

When food poisoning sweeps through Dallas, Patrick Laycal doesn't expect a princess to show up at his door asking for his help. Her one, simple request dumps him in the middle of a royal mess—one that could cost him far more than just his life.

Interesting take, in this world, the current political situation is exaggerated. America is divided into several monarchies, and segregated into a strict cast system with no social mobility. Real world issues in America, such as poverty, malnutrition, food deserts, lack of social security, serve as a backdrop for the tame but charming romance, told through the eyes of the low class, hard working, clever male protagonist, whose life is taken over by the inconvenience of a princess falling in love with him. Oh, and there are horses. Entertaining short read. There is also a magic system, but it is only mentioned in passing, with little impact on the story.

American romance with dystopic elements

It was ok, I think. The story is somewhat entertaining and I liked the horses. That’s why I picked up the book in the fist place. But none of the characters are interesting, never mind exciting. In the end, I could take it or leave it.
