On an epic voyage far beyond the Republic, the Jedi will confront their most extraordinary enemy—and test the limits of honor and sacrifice against their most devastating challenge.

The Clone Wars have yet to erupt when Jedi Master Jorus C’baoth petitions the Senate for support of a singularly ambitious undertaking: the dream of Outbound Flight. Six Jedi Masters, twelve Jedi Knights, and fifty thousand men, women, and children will embark—aboard a gargantuan vessel, equipped for years of travel—on a mission to contact intelligent life and colonize undiscovered worlds beyond the known galaxy.

Unknown to the famed Jedi Master, the launch of the mission is secretly being orchestrated by an unlikely ally: the evil Sith Lord Darth Sidious, who has his own reasons for wanting Outbound Flight to move forward.

Yet Darth Sidious is not the mission’s most dangerous challenge. Once underway, the starship crosses paths at the edge of Unknown Space with the forces of the alien Chiss Ascendancy and a brilliant mastermind named Thrawn. Even Jedi knight Obi-Wan Kenobi, aboard Outbound Flight with his young Padawan student Anakin Skywalker, cannot help to avert disaster. What begins as a peaceful Jedi mission is violently transformed into an all-out war for survival against staggering odds—and the most diabolical of adversaries.© and (P)2005 Lucasfilm Ltd. and TM. der Vorleser ist wie immer super! Die Geschichte hinkt für mich an einigen Stellen ist aber trotzdem kurzweilig und spannend.

wie immer top Sprecher

Story is good and exciting with characters known from other Zahn Star Wars books. When used to Marc Thompson as reader, this book needs to get used to. Unfortunately story is shortened. I had sometimes the feeling that things happen fast and while the important key elements are there the details in between are missing. If one is fan of Thrawn, this book can be recommended.

Good Story, unfortunately abridged

The production is great and the story too but they just cut of the end! I have never witnessed anything like that you don't learn anything about how the story ends for any of the main characters. Actually you either have to read the book or go to wookieepedia to learn how the book ended and what happened to all the characters. Two of them actually died after the audio book ended! This honestly is a joke.

The end is missing!

Compliments to the author and narrator.

Thrawn is simply the best. Absolutely confident and focused on achieving his goals.

Thrawn at his best!

A) This is an abridged version, and not just abridged but severely and badly adapted. It omits and changes significant plot points linked to other stories, including the actual ending and the fate of several characters that should have an impact on future events.
B) The concepts explored here are great, but there are too many lackluster descriptions and clichés in the writing and then poor deliveries in the performance, particularly in the middle and early parts of the story.

The story is almost an obligatory read for fans, given its significance in the legacy/Zahn cannon. But that importance just highlights the problems with this edition. Go read it on paper; don't listen to the audio version.

Butchered adaptation
