An all-new novel based on the landmark TV series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine from the acclaimed author of A Big Ship at the Edge of the Universe!

Jadzia Dax has been a friend to Etom Prit, the Trill Trade Commissioner, over two lifetimes. When Etom visits Deep Space Nine with the request to rein in his wayward granddaughter Nemi, Dax can hardly say no. It seems like an easy assignment: visit a resort casino while on shore leave, and then bring her old friend Nemi home. But upon arrival, Dax finds Nemi has changed over the years in terrifying ways…and the pursuit of the truth will plunge Dax headlong into a century’s worth of secrets and lies!

Set during the series,, this book is easily accessible without being up to date on the recently cancelled Lit-Verse. If new releases keep up this quality, I'll be happy and I look forward to reading more from Alex White. I particularly like that the author focuses on characters and keeping the plot moving instead of constantly rehashing what has just happened or spending too much time on explaining fictional science, as some Trek authors tend to do.
The story fits well into the series and adds depth to the background of Dax. It takes place almost exclusively on Trill and doesn't feature the full DS9 cast. The only character whom the author has not fully 'captured' is Worf, who seems a little too calm and docile. Dax, Kira and Bashir, however, come alive as if you are watching the series.
Petkoff is a talented reader as usual. Perfect enunciation, speed and melody, lots of unique voices. The only reason I have given him 4 stars is that his imitations of the original actors are not quite as perfect as with the TOS books. I doubt, however, that anyone could do better.

Good Beginning after the Lit-Verse
