2057. Humanity has raised exploiting the solar system to an art form. Bella Lind and the crew of her nuclear-powered ship, the Rockhopper, push ice. They mine comets. And they're good at it.

The Rockhopper is nearing the end of its current mission cycle, and everyone is desperate for some much-needed R & R, when startling news arrives from Saturn: Janus, one of Saturn's ice moons, has inexplicably left its natural orbit and is now heading out of the solar system at high speed. As layers of camouflage fall away, it becomes clear that Janus was never a moon in the first place. It's some kind of machine - and it is now headed toward a fuzzily glimpsed artifact 260 light-years away. The Rockhopper is the only ship anywhere near Janus, and Bella Lind is ordered to shadow it for the few vital days before it falls forever out of reach. In accepting this mission, she sets her ship and her crew on a collision course with destiny - for Janus has more surprises in store, and not all of them are welcome.

Kritikerröster

"[Reynolds is] a genius for big-concept SF and fans of Arthur C. Clarke's Rendezvous with Rama and Larry Niven's Ringworld will love this novel." ( Publishers Weekly

In a nutshell: If you enjoy Reynolds' writing style you will like this. Its a bit different then his other stories, mainly because its more focussed on human interaction, but its very cool regardless. Still a slightly too slow information throughput though, but I've gotten used to that by now.

As always amazing ideas, and as always a slow delivery

I'm really hoping we will get to hear more of this story... The characters are great and the ideas intriguing!

Loved it.

Just give the story a little bit of time to develop and you will listen to a very good book.

Very innovative Story, Great Voice

Ett fel uppstod. Försök igen om några minuter.

In general the story starts like many other "quick ramshackle spaceship crew, we need to fly to this interesting object" story. however it takes suprising twists and is worthwhile listening to.
my criticism focus on something else:
the length in general . I feel like this could have been two to three hours less without dropping anything important.
The worst part are the endless quarrels between Bella and Svetleto - just obnoxious.
On the other hand, the author shortens really important developments to squeeze more of the quarrels into the story.

the narrator does great though.

Interesting Story overstaying it's welcome

Very Interesting story and concepts thats geta little convoluted by the end leaves out major mysteries. Overall i think the story goes on a little too long for what it wants to tell, but its well written so it managea to entertain.

The characters a likeable but often too calm in intense situation to appear believable, this might also be attributed to the rather slow and mythotical voice acting, wich i still enioyed very much, but removed some excitement

Fun ride that takes a smidge to long
