The future is forever changed for seventeen-year-old Lavada Goodall the day she pulls a suitcase from a flooded river near her rural Ozark Mountain home.
In 1937, the diamonds she finds inside brings the possibility of higher education and an easier life to her and the fiancé she’s about to build a family with. he soon discovers they also bring big-city strangers, greedy gangsters, and perilous danger to her beloved community.
Set in an area of astounding natural beauty and hardship, Lavada’s is a world treading water between changing times. Every person she cherishes is forced to face conflict, to discover the depths of their courage, to learn the truths of their soul as they follow the trail of the diamonds back to their rightful owner. Lavada must reevaluate her personal choices and decide which will lead her to become the dignified mother and wife she wishes to be, filled with integrity and purpose, content with her place in society.
