From the breakthrough international best-selling author of The Girl in the Ice, a breathtaking novel about a disgraced female detective's fight for redemption. And survival.

Kate Marshall was a promising young police detective when she caught the notorious Nine Elms serial killer. But her greatest victory suddenly became a nightmare.

15 years after those catastrophic, career-ending events, a copycat killer has taken up the Nine Elms mantle, continuing the ghastly work of his idol.

Enlisting her brilliant research assistant, Tristan Harper, Kate draws on her prodigious and long-neglected skills as an investigator to catch a new monster. But there's much more than her reputation on the line: Kate was the original killer's intended fifth victim...and his successor means to finish the job.

It took me a while to get interested in the story, but once I was, I really liked it. Good characters, gripping story, tense - but quite graphic at times, nothing for the faint of heart. The narrator is brilliant in dialogues or direct speech, her voice gets a bit monotonous when she simply narrates. However, clear recommendation! I hope we will soon get the next part of the story of Kate, Tristan and Jake.

Good book

Ett fel uppstod. Försök igen om några minuter.
habe an einigen blutigen Stellen vorgespult, aber ein gut gelesenes unterhaltsames Buch während meiner Fahrten zur Arbeit und bei Spaziergängen.

brutal aber gut

How such a story can be written, I can’t fathom. Bestial at times but very fascinating! The different voices are read very originally and authentically and a real highlight, while the main voice seems to be kept in a weird chant a bit held back with odd, artificial pauses. Still very much worth listening to.

Quite gruesome and disturbing, definitely not for the faint hearted

The speaker was amazing and did a great job committing to the dialogues. The characters were well described. The plot was however a bit predictable. Nevertheless, there was some suspense.

Great narration, predictable yet good plot

It's a common mistake to swap proper research for bloodthirsty scenes.
This book could have been good. But the author packs a couple of clichees together, puts a lot of effort into creating the sickest of characters and the bloodiest of situations and is happy with the result.
Good for him. Not for the reader.
The narrator is a star, though. Absolutely amazing performance.

sick and shallow
