From New York Times bestselling author Susanna Clark, the audiobook of the Hugo-winning, epic Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, the basis for the BBC miniseries.

At the dawn of the nineteenth century, two very different magicians emerge to change England's history. In the year 1806, with the Napoleonic Wars raging on land and sea, most people believe magic to be long dead in England-until the reclusive Mr Norrell reveals his powers, and becomes a celebrity overnight.

Soon, another practicing magician comes forth: the young, handsome, and daring Jonathan Strange. He becomes Norrell's student, and they join forces in the war against France. But Strange is increasingly drawn to the wildest, most perilous forms of magic, straining his partnership with Norrell, and putting at risk everything else he holds dear.

Though the language and writing style are quite lovely, I do declare that I found the tome to be rather overrated. The plot is as thin and bloated as a pudding gone awry, with far too many details that doth not add to the story in the slightest. The characters are as dull as dishwater, and the plot itself becomes as convoluted and unfulfilling as a game of whist with a poor partner. Alas, it reads as though it were written by a distant cousin of Mrs. Austen, rather than a true successor to her genius.

Upon my word...

Ett fel uppstod. Försök igen om några minuter.
Bland story that promises a lot at the beginning, but the goes nowhere. Much too drawn out. Wooden characters.

Disappointing
