‘Gloriously imaginative’

– SFX Magazine

The first volume in the sci-fi action-adventure duology, Exodus: The Archimedes Engine is an exciting epic novel from legendary author Peter F. Hamilton.

Experience the expansive universe of EXODUS through the booming, deeply immersive cadence of sci-fi audio legend John Lee.

A fight for freedom among the stars . . .

In a past age, humanity fled a dying Earth in massive ark ships. These searched the galaxy to find a new home. Then one fleet found Centauri, a dense cluster of stars teeming with habitable planets. Now, thousands of years later, Centauri’s settlers have evolved into advanced beings known as Celestials – and their great houses rule vast star systems.

As they vie for supremacy, Earth’s ark ships continue to arrive, and humans must serve these repressive masters. But is there a better life beyond the empire? Finn is a Centauri-born human and yearns for a brighter future. So, when another ark ship arrives, previously thought lost, Finn seizes the chance to become a Traveler.

These heroes explore the vast unknowns of distant space, dedicated to humanity’s survival. And they hope – one day – to find freedom.

... it' hard to follow the story through the characters. It gets confusing every now and then. Plus: There wasn't a single character in the whole book that I liked.

Very good and interesting ideas but ...

The first word that comes to mind when describing this is epic. Tons of settings, characters, intrigues within intrigues, always more places to go and people to escape from. It is NOT possible to listen to this without paying real attention. I tried, after 15h you habe zero clue who is currently double crossing which faction and why everyone is mad at each other. The story is definetly interesting, and the world is pretty cool aswell.
The problem I had with it is that it is too big in a way. 90% of the story is a buildup towards the final crecendo, and when it finally comes it really isnt all that crazy. It ends at the point where you would REALLY hope for a second book to begin, because things might finally spiral out of control, but it doesnt seem like one is coming. Also, the whole story is about what happens to the crown dominion, not what happens to the characters. That creates a super weird sort of plot armour where people can only die when it couldnt introduce an immediate plot twist, since again, EVERYTHING is exclusively building towards the final crescendo.
I will not listen to this again, but if you love huge scopes and sci-fi intrigues its worth a listen

Certainly interesting

Komplex, intense, sometimes a bit difficult to listen to.. but, as all of Hamiltons Books, very profound. Cant wait for Part2.

Another incredible Space Saga from P.F.H.

I couldn’t believe the other negative appraisals. After all it’s Peter F. Hamilton? The speakers royal accent doesn’t befit a science-fiction and is awkward to listen to in this setting. Hamilton overdid the progressive plot with the Imperial Celestials, The names of the figures are really artificially made up and all in all it veirs to far into the realm of Fantasy.

I am disappointed, it took me several weeks and numerous attempts to finish this audio book …

Disappointed in the great Peter F. Hamilton
