Captain William Sparhawk flies Earth's single starship on a voyage of exploration. His crew of veteran spacers begins the mission with high hopes and the best of intentions, but the universe has other plans. Instead of space merchants and potential allies, they discover Earth's impending doom. Sparhawk must decide whether to hunt down enemy scouts to keep Earth's new starship a secret or to head home to warn Star Guard of the danger. Either way, he's ignited an interstellar war.

Dreadnought, the second book of the Lost Colonies Trilogy, is a novel of military science fiction by best-selling author B. V. Larson.

When I started listening, I was about to just stop listening due to the way the speaker read the narration. While the individual voices are done quite well, it takes a lot to get used to the way he narrated the story. It is just strange when there is action and the voices have a lot of emotion, but then the narration between is spoken calm and distant compared to what is going on. It did get better towards the end though.

The story itself was great. I particularly liked the interaction between the pirate captain and William, as well as how some of the other characters developed as the story progressed. Even though I am not so happy with the speaker, I wil get the 3rd book as well.

Fantastic story, seaker improves over time
