This unique book ties together red-hot, but seemingly unrelated issues, starting with the October 7, 2023 massacre of Israeli civilians by Hamas operatives, the Middle East war of 2023–2026, and the associated hostage crisis. It moves on to an in-depth analysis of the backgrounds, including Jewish history and the Palestinian narrative.
Next, the book addresses the root causes of antisemitism and the political, ideological, and religious divide within Israeli society. The final chapters tie together all these issues and demonstrate the interconnectedness of political and military events, as well as the underlying religious and cultural tides.
The culminating chapter and epilogue offer self-evident, but rarely stated, solutions—both practical and ideological—to a seemingly intractable political conflict that has caused endless human suffering.
The topics and analyses are presented clearly and are highly readable. Seemingly unrelated issues are shown to be highly interrelated, inviting the reader to move beyond and behind the usual superficial impressions obtained from media coverage, including one-sided propaganda and frequent public-opinion manipulation.
The author is a physician at a large medical center in Jerusalem and a professor of medicine at the Hebrew University Faculty of Medicine.
