In this episode, Amber and Scott dive into the dark, twisty world of the thriller Verity . They share a humorous debate over whether or not an author should ever call a professional meeting while covered in the blood of a stranger, ultimately questioning the extreme lengths one will go to for a career-making opportunity. The hosts also touch on the bizarre, non-maternal nature of the film's titular character and the unsettling reality of living in a home where you are being watched by someone who is supposed to be comatose. Some What Would You Dos from the episode: Would you accept a $225,000 ghostwriting contract after witnessing a horrific accident, or would you counter-offer for more money? If you were hired to finish a famous author's work, would you use AI to condense and organize her cryptic notes, or try to decipher them manually? If you suspected your partner was faking a vegetative state, would you set up a hidden camera, or would you try to trigger a confession through more direct, physical means? If you discovered your spouse had written a manuscript confessing to the murder of your child, would you believe their claim that it was just a dark "adversarial" writing exercise? The episode concludes with a look at the film's ridiculous final act, focusing on the sheer absurdity of the characters trying to make a murder look like a natural drowning. Amber and Scott can't help but laugh at the tactical incompetence of disposing of evidence in a lake after already leaving a trail of physical trauma that would be impossible to hide from a coroner.
