What harm can one small lie do?

Forced to give up her career as a dentist, and still unemployed a year later, Valentina Knight has finally run out of options. With foreclosure looming she acts in desperation, lying to get a position as an assistant to the county medical examiner. Val's relieved. She won't be homeless. But Val didn't count on the lie trapping her in a dangerous game with a killer.

Val quickly becomes involved in the case of Francine Donohue, who disappeared from her neighborhood and is discovered dead six months later. The bizarre circumstances surrounding the murder are not the first of their kind. With the evidence pointing to a serial killer, and a calling card Val understands, she quickly gets sucked into the case.

As Val is pulled in further, the situation takes a darker turn. Someone is aware of the lie she told. Someone who is prepared to kill...

at first it was hard to follow the storyline and it's plausibility but it got more and more exciting. The end felt a bit rushed though.
I also liked the speakers change of voices, making it easy to follow dialogues. However, her accentuation at the end of the sentences "Val said, Gavin asked,..." was extremely annoying.

crime with a twist

Story convoluted and hard to follow. A lot of characters, but I could not relate to any of them. Lots of names and relationships that didn't make sense. I don't know if it was the writing or the reader but the conversations felt really wrong. only silver lining: interesting medical facts/ knowledge.

could not finish it

I loved the story and the speaker. Will look for other books of this kind.

Great story

Honestly I've no knowledge about the employment situation and circumstances in the US, But it's hard to believe that a trained dentist can no longer receive compensation or adequate work after an occupational accident.
And what is so bad about the fact that she had no recommendation from Oliver is just as incomprehensible as the actions of the police and the lawyers in the story. The main protagonist's motivation and fears are nonsensical and the whole story is harebrained.

Unrealistic and not comprehensible story

Grausame Sprecherin und schlechte Storyline, ich konnte es mir nicht bis zum
Ende anhören weil es einfach so viel Schwachsinn war
