My body is made of scars,

some were done to me,

but most I did to myself.

Keera is a killer. As the King’s Blade, she is the most talented spy in the kingdom. And the king’s favored assassin. When a mysterious figure moves against the Crown, Keera is called upon to hunt down the so-called Shadow.

She tracks her target into the magical lands of the Fae, but Faeland is not what it seems—and neither is the Shadow. Keera is shocked by what she learns and can’t help but wonder who her enemy truly is: the King that destroyed her people or the Shadow that threatens the peace.

As she searches for answers, Keera is haunted by a promise she made long ago, one that will test her in every way. To keep her word, Keera must not only save herself but an entire kingdom.

Es war ein wunderbares Hörerlebnis! Wenn Ihr Dark-Fantasy, mit schwierigen/tiefgründigen Charakteren mögt, ist das euer Buch!

Ein moralisch-grauer Charakter mit tiefen Wunden

Was the narrator‘s voice. The sound of her voice is incredible disregarding of the story itself. Add to that the narrator knows what she is doing, skilled in telling the story without becoming flat or bland. She breathed life into the characters and the way she speaks the main character fits so incredibly well I am amazed.

Regarding the story, I have to say that I found the blurb misleading. There seems little question that the King is bad and the others are good. In the blurb, to me it read like it is a difficult question.
That being said, I personally found the story engaging. Always moving forward in a way that makes sense, no boring stretches as all. Great descriptions and the author managed to brush past travel sequences in a way that transmits the time passed without becoming boring or distracting. I also liked having a bisexual character with little attention drawn to that fact but also addressing it.
Furthermore, displaying the alcohol addiction was well done too. My only jarring downside is that after managing to step away from wine for months, the character binge drinks herself into oblivion one time and apparently, that has no effect whatsoever on her recuperation and is thoroughly glanced over. Seeing at how well I thought the addiction was added without substracting from the plot, that was such a big mistake and inconsistent that it was jarring. Still throughly enjoyed the story and listened to it within 3 days

First thing I fell in Love with

Keera is not the typical Fae-Hero/ good girl everyone had waited for, who saves the whole world. I loved the story and I'm exited for the next book

I'm a little bit in love with Keera.
