Joe Pike, the quiet man in Robert Crais’s PI Elvis Cole mysteries, comes into his own in these novels set in the seamy streets of Hollywood and LA.
Private investigator Elvis Cole is a wisecracking smartass while his partner, Joe Pike, is his polar opposite: taciturn and reserved. But you know what they say about the quiet ones! Pike is an ex-Marine and ex-mercenary with no qualms about taking out the bad guys. In this series within a series, author Robert Crais shifts the focus to the strong and silent partner in a PI team that’s as intriguing as their cases. Corrupt cops, mobsters, the ultra-wealthy, international arms dealers, street gangs, and cold-blooded killers - all in a day’s work for Pike and Cole. With each action-packed thriller, listeners learn more about the tortured Pike’s backstory and his friendship with Cole.
In this series of gripping listens, narrators include Hall of Fame Narrator Luke Daniels and the author himself, Robert Crais. Each performs the strong and cryptic Joe Pike, who’s so much more than a sidekick, masterfully.
A native of Baton Rouge, Lousiana, Crais grew up on the banks of the Mississippi River in a blue collar family of oil refinery workers and four generations of police officers. At age 15, he purchased a second-hand paperback of Raymond Chandler’s The Little Sister that inspired his passion for reading and writing crime fiction.
