Complete with 157 footnotes and a button that makes sheep fall from the sky, Simon Fayter and the Doors of Bone is the rip-roaring tale of an endearingly overconfident and hilarious boy genius. Simon has no idea that the quirky old tutor his mom works for is hiding an ancient secret, but the truth comes out when dark forces attack. Simon inherits a dusty coat, a slew of strange powers, and an age-old mystery. Namely, that the strange "lucky streak" he was born with is actually something much more complicated. And more dangerous....

My magic powers are junk. An evil wizard wants me dead. My minotaur sidekick is a total nerd. My task? Save the world without being smashed, blown up, eviscerated, or transformed into a yak. Or roasted alive by the miniature dragon that has taken up residence in my boot. My only hope? A magic coat that I inherited from a long-dead magical megadude. It does 50 cool things, most of them useless. Sure, it can grant me ninja powers, turn me invisible, and make me leap tall buildings. But it only does those things once a day, and only for like five seconds.

In a fit of genius (and cowardice) Simon has left his friends frozen in time, awaiting their deaths. Meanwhile, he explores the ancient magical city of Tarinea in hopes that he might find a way to save them. If he's lucky, he might find another bloodstone while he's at it. But Tarinea isn't quite what the travel brochures said it would be. It's a place of dark magic, ancient mysteries, old enemies, brutal competitions, of monsters and mayhem, of silent sorcerers, and foul intentions. To get through, he will have to trust a strange new friend, survive a mysterious teacher, and face the dangers.

Reeling from the destruction of Tarinea, Simon is now stranded on a mysterious snow-covered moon to which the Turncoat has brought him for reasons unknown. Failure lies behind, and uncertainty lies ahead, but he is determined to persevere. He has one bloodstone left to find, and then the tricky part: retrieving the two that Rone has stolen. With all fifty in hand, he must unite them before time runs out. Only then will he foil the evil plans of his greatest enemy, fulfill his destiny, and finally learn what it means to be the Fayter.

In this, the fifth and final installment of the beloved "laugh-out-loud, cry-out-loud, family-friendly" fantasy series, Simon Fayter is inches away from becoming an all-powerful megadude and saving the world. Yet it seems like miles. Deep inside the mindhold of his enemy, he is imprisoned. He has lost the turncoat. He is unable to touch what little magical power he once called his own.
