Every dog has its day in this series starring wise-cracking, northern New Jersey millionaire lawyer Andy Carpenter, who ferociously defends Death Row inmates - both human and canine.

Paterson, New Jersey, is the home of irreverent lawyer Andy Carpenter, whose unexpected $22 million inheritance only increases his dogged pursuit of evidence to prove the innocence of the wrongly accused. He is equally committed to his newly-founded dog rescue agency, named the Tara Foundation after his beloved golden retriever. And, oh yeah, he’s also smitten with his lead PI, Laurie Collins. Described by Booklist as “the legal-thriller genre’s waggish rejoinder to Anthony Bruno and Janet Evanovich,” this series features likable characters, intriguing plots, sharp wit, chilling murders, and lovable dogs.

Accomplished narrator Grover Gardner’s performance is truly a treat! His Earphones Award-winning portrayal of Andy Carpenter allows listeners to glimpse the soft heart and quick humor buried beneath the defense lawyer’s cynical view of the world. Gardner's Andy is snarky, charming, tenacious, and tender, depending on what's needed. To quote AudioFile: "Listening to Grover Gardner narrating a David Rosenfelt novel is like sliding into favorite slippers at the end of a long day: One feels the joyful gratification of a perfect fit.“

A Paterson native and an NYU grad, author David Rosenfelt was the marketing president for Tri-Star Pictures before becoming a writer of novels and screenplays. Marking Andy Carpenter’s debut, Open and Shut was his first novel; First Degree, his second novel and book two in the series, was named a Best Book of 2003 by Publishers Weekly. He lives in Southern California with his wife and 35 dogs.
