Alice Brickstone is a high school athlete and a loner. She accidentally makes a discovery that will forever change her life: she can fly. And she is the only person with that gift since avatars roamed ancient India. As she tries to understand what she has become, Alice finds refuge in the unexpected kindness of a girl from school. Can she risk confiding in her first friend ever?

Karan is recovering from an accident that left her disfigured and amnesiac. She’s 21, remembers no one and nothing about her life, and has an irrational terror of water. Then she meets Alice: 17, fearless, strong. Bigger than life but strange and secretive. When Alice forces Karan to face her worst fears, together they unleash a much more immediate and violent terror than drowning. Karan nearly died before, and now someone is determined that she doesn’t escape this time.

Alice Brickstone is 17. She’s a small-town girl with massive secrets. One of them is this: She has superhuman abilities straight out of an Indian myth. Another one: She can barely speak because of social anxiety. And: She has never had an intimate relationship or any lasting friendships. Until now. He’s dark, attractive, and older. Her new girlfriends insist he’s bad news, and some eerie coincidences make her start to agree. Then, far up in the mountains, all hell breaks loose. Everyone is in danger, and it’s too late to turn back.

At her new university hidden in the heart of London, she thought she would be accepted, not hunted. Growing up with an anxiety condition wasn’t easy for Alice Brickstone. Learning to fly helped. Meeting others with strange abilities like hers did too. Now, starting university in a different country feels like a new beginning. She even meets a cute guy who demands nothing of her. But Chancery Gate University is not the safe and welcoming place she hoped it would be.

Nineteen-year-old Alice Brickstone has survived hunters, secrets, and betrayal, but nothing prepared her for this kind of grief. One friend is slipping away, another is barely holding on, and the fractures in siddha society are widening faster than she can keep up. Someone is exploiting the chaos left behind by the university’s closure — someone who knows Alice’s history, her training, and every vulnerability she’s tried to bury.
