Historicism is the method of interpretation that actually developed out of the Protestant Reformation, which is the reason why, to quote one critic, the “view was so widely held, that for a long time it was called the Protestant view”. That alone should pique interest to a deeper study of the view.

The Revelation is not about “the things that were” or the past at the time it was written. If this book is primarily about the future from the time of John receiving the Revelation, then we must consider that much of the things which shall be hereafter having commenced shortly thereafter, would now, in our time, 1900 years later, have already happened over that span of time, and can be found in history.

I will in this volume, show that Revelation chapter 20 is to be understood by the plain reading of the text, and not to be taken as symbolic. That in fact, the terminology that is symbolic, is plainly shown to be so in the text, and that those symbols are clearly explained in the scripture itself. Chapter 20 is simply meant to be an overview, a history in advance, for the consolation of the saints, to which there would be no purpose to veil it in cryptic prose.

Most of the evangelical and Christian world believes that the coming of Christ is imminent, and that they will be raptured away before all of the calamity of the entire Book of Revelation ensues during the very last seven or three and a half years of this era, a period of Great Tribulation unlike any other in the history of the world. As the world around us shapes to confirm that we are indeed in the time of the very end, many are beginning to look deeper into the Bible and more specifically the prophetic passages of Jesus, the epistles, and the Revelation.

This exposition is short and sweet, as there is no need for an abundance of superfluous facts of truth regularly included by prophecy pundits. I have no interest in speculation from past or present prophecy expositors, but seek to draw my final understanding only from the Bible. I have here endeavored to examine every apocalyptic use of the beast symbol and those symbols attached or related to them, then draw my conclusions from scripture alone. I hope and pray that sharing this journey here will be as enlightening and clarifying for you, dear listener, as it has been for me.

There has always been a true and Holy Spirit interpretation of the word of God. This interpretation will ring true throughout history unchanged, and be verified by it. This is where we must start when looking for the best interpretation of the apocalyptic portions of the scripture. We must look in history for that which stands the test of time; that which agrees with the word of God and that history has proven to be true.

It is a history of a gradual revelation during eighteen centuries under the influence of historical facts, of the system of interpretation which has commended itself to the most temperate and enlightened minds, as in harmony with the Word and Providence of God.

Is there a 500-year-old conspiracy? A propaganda machine so pervasive and entrenched, yet so elusive that the entire world could be affected by it, working in plain sight, but unseen? Why has the prophecy that has conquered the age, also excluded nearly two thousand years of history? What is it that they are afraid that the light of history will reveal? We must look in history for that which stands the test of time; that which agrees with the word of God, and history has proven to be true. God's Word is the sword that must be wielded to remove the scales from the eyes and dispel that darkness.

In these symbolic prophecies the history of twelve or thirteen centuries is written in advance. Compare them with anything else in the entire circle of literature, and you will realize that they stand apart as a thing unique, like a living man in a gallery of statues. The miracle of the existence of these prophecies in the book, and of their fulfillment in the facts of history, is so great that few minds can grasp it.

Horae Apocalypticae is a commentary on the apocalypse, critical and historical; including also an examination of the chief prophecies of Daniel. It is doubtless the most elaborate work ever produced on the Apocalypse. Editors Note, 2018 Quin. Ed. E. B Elliot finished his great work about the year 1860. The nature of the Historicist method of interpretation is such that the line of fulfilled prophecy is continually moving with the passage of time.
