It's the brightest street in the world - and the darkest. It all depends on your point of view. Just ask Detective Danny Clover, who's seen it all. Larry Thor stars as the world-weary Times Square homicide investigator who is still sentimental about the street in these 16 atmospheric radio adventures! Clover stalks justice through the glitz and through the gutter, undaunted by wrong turns, obstructions, or traps. At least Sgt. Tartaglia (Charles Calvert) and Sgt. Muggavan (Jack Kruschen) are on his side.

Welcome to Broadway! Your tour guide: homicide detective Danny Clover (Larry Thor). He holds his exhaustion in check, knowing full well that his dangerous dealings with the underbelly of the Great White Way will begin again come the dawn.

When Howard Duff, radio’s regular Sam Spade, was dropped from the show, Steven Dunne donned the trench coat. Finding his own brash and boyish style with the role, Dunne’s Spade was much like creator Dashiell Hammett himself - a grown-up teenager who loved a put-on, but could be depended on to be loyal and true despite his own troubles. In these digitally remastered capers, Hammett’s hard-boiled hero delves in to the domains of daytime serials, journalism, the waterfront, and international intrigue.

Your nerves, drawn wire-taut. Your heart, thundering in your chest. Your knuckles, drawn white against your chair. Your mind, leaving the comfort and confinement of "the four walls of today" to tempt the whims of the high seas, to venture to the frozen tundra, the mysterious east, the wild west...to travel to Istanbul, to Europe, and to nightmares. The only limit to the excitement in these 20 episodes of red-blooded adventure drama is the scope of your own imagination.

This series tells the fascinating and exotic story of the crew of The Scarlet Queen, "the proudest ship to plow the seas." Their quest for a Chinese treasure leads them to remarkable encounters in ports of call throughout the Pacific Ocean and the China Sea. Captain Philip Karney - played by Howard Duff in the audition episode, and thereafter by series creator Elliott Lewis - is at the helm of the 78 foot ketch. At the skipper's side is First Mate Red Gallagher, played by the husky-voiced Ed Max.

Larry Thor, a staff announcer turned actor with an expressive and powerful voice, played the role of Detective Danny Clover. His beat was Broadway, and each week he narrated a new tale of nighttime drama along the Great White Way. Writers Morton Fine and David Friedkin delivered scripts of elegant intricacy that turned routine description into near poetry. Three soundmen worked in unison to create one of the densest soundscapes on radio - capturing the chaotic buzz of the New York night as a counterpoint to the music and dialogue. It was the most lyrical crime show on the air.
