Azt hiszem, a kutya az egyike az ember legsikeresebb háziasítási kísérleteinek. Amióta szolgálatunkba léptek, a legsokoldalúbb barátaink. Before H.G. Wells or William Morris, W. H. Hudson envisioned a completely reimagined future for mankind. First published in 1887, A Crystal Age is a groundbreaking sci-fi masterpiece and one of the earliest pastoral utopian novels. The story follows Smith, a traveler who suffers a mysterious...

First published in 1885, The Purple Land is a novel by Argentinian naturalist and author William Henry Hudson. It tells the story of a young Englishman called Richard Lamb who elopes with a teenage Argentinian girl to Uruguay. Once there, Lamb sets off to find work, but instead finds himself at the center of an epic adventure. This exciting and beautifully written pause-resister is not to be missed by fans and collectors of Hudson's wonderful work, and it would make for a worthy addition to any collection.

William Henry Hudson (1841-1922) was an author, naturalist, and ornithologist. Born in Argentina, he spent his youth studying the local fauna and flora and observing the natural and human dramas on what was then a lawless frontier. Far Away and Long Ago is a record of the years 1840-50 on the Pampas. The abundant wildlife was easily observed and the author became a naturalist with a great talent for description. Hudson observed the birds, beasts and plants: the cowbird - the red willow, the armadillo, and the opossum - where adventurous Gauchos herded cattle.

In The Story of a Piebald Horse, a stranger appears at the cattle branding one day, and in an unfortunate incident he is accidentally killed. His piebald horse, saddle, and other posessions are kept by one of the ranchers until the stranger can be identified and his family contacted. In the hope that some traveller will recognize the stranger's horse, he ties it up beside the local inn. After a time, a group of herders passing through do recognize the horse... and they tell a most extraordinary tale....

This is the haunting tale of a Venezuelan's love for Rima, the lovely "bird girl" and descendant of a mysterious race, who he finds in the heart of the jungle. Beautiful and vivid descriptions abound in this exotic novel.

W. H. Hudson was born in 1841 in Buenos Aires and seems to have been a sort of permanently displaced person. He moved to London in 1869 and wrote a series of remarkable books, most with a wilderness setting. In 1904, when he was 63, he focused on an Indian legend for Green Mansions, a memorable romance of the jungle for which he is now chiefly remembered. His epitaph reads, "He Loved Birds and Green Places and the Wind on the Heath, and Saw Brightness of the Skirts of God."

Nella Braddy (1894–1973), a pioneer among female editors, compiled this seven-story collection and published Masterpieces of Adventure: Stories of Desert Places in 1922. It features seven authors: Egerton Castle, Stephen Crane, Selma Lagerlöf, Bret Harte, Thomas Hardy, O. Henry, and W. H...
