The Metamorphoses by Publius Ovidius Naso (43 B.C. - A.D. 17) has, over the centuries, been the most popular and influential work from our classical tradition. This extraordinary collection of some 250 Greek and Roman myths and folk tales has always been a popular favorite, and has decisively shaped western art and literature from the moment it was completed in A.D. 8. The stories are particularly vivid when read by David Horovitch, in this new lively verse translation by Ian Johnston.

Humphries has rendered (Ovid's) love poetry with conspicuous success into English which is neither obtrusively colloquial nor awkwardly antique.

Dive into the enchanting world of Ovids Metamorphoses, one of the most renowned and influential works from the Ancient era. This captivating narrative poem spans fifteen books, weaving together mythological tales that explore the creation and evolution of the world. From its cosmogony to the deification of Julius Caesar, Ovids verses serve as a vital source for many famous ancient myths, including the stories of Daedalus and Icarus, Arachne, and Narcissus. While the structure may seem arbitrary, the underlying theme of transformation connects each tale, illustrating change as the sole constant...

Ovid’s sensuous and witty poem brings together a dazzling array of mythological tales ingeniously linked by the idea of transformation, often as a result of love or lust, in which men and women find themselves magically changed into new and sometimes extraordinary beings. Beginning with the...

How to Get Over a Breakup presents an unabashedly modern prose translation of Ovid's lighthearted and provocative work, complete with a lively introduction. Ovid's advice—which he illustrates with ingenious interpretations of classical mythology—ranges from the practical, psychologically astute, and profound to the ironic, deliberately offensive, and bizarre.

Since the beginning of his papacy in 2013, Pope Francis has been praised and admired for his surprisingly progressive views on social justice and the climate crisis. And he has also been vocal about the clericalism that exists in the Catholic Church and taken many steps to show that he, as pope, wants to move away from such clericalism: he chose to live in the modest Santa Marta residence instead of the traditional papal apartments; he chose to be driven around in a used car instead of the traditional papal limousine.

I was plunged into such a deep shock and sadness, that I was forced to ask myself what had gone wrong. Why would my lifelong friend Tom, raised on the farm by a wonderful mom and dad exactly like I had been, end up doing such a horrible thing as abusing minors? Why in the world would such a thing ever happen in such an extraordinary, loving and close-knit family as that of Tom! Why?
