When Cotton Cooper was an infant, his mother had him resting on a goose down pillow under an oak tree. The tree was struck by lightning. As a result, his hair is white (the color of cotton). He is a young man now, but his reflexes are ultra fast and he hears and sees sharper than the average person.

Zoie and her cousin Savannah are joined by their grandfather Potsy for the cross-country trip from Utah to Missouri and Whispering Oaks. On the way, they plan to make this a touring vacation. Their first stop is the Four Corners where Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado all touch. Savannah picks out a very special bracelet to buy. The clerk tells her that there is a great legend about the bracelet.

The tree that Cotton Cooper was sleeping under as an infant was struck by lightning. As a result, his hair is white (the color of cotton). He is a young man now, but his reflexes are ultrafast. He hears better and sees sharper than the average person. He travels west to visit his brother Paul, who is a captain in the cavalry at Fort Laramie. While visiting, his brother gets orders to take a company of men and help 600 Pawnee Indians move south to the town of Pawnee in Indian Territory.

In Volume 2, Zoie and her cousin, Savannah, start on another series of exciting adventures. Zoie saves the lives of three adults and a baby at the scene of an accident. The Wizard Lord Drayfus is released from prison and starts on a campaign to enter the outerworld and capture some Elfins who have thus far eluded him. Using her "Sparkler" to save the accident victims has resulted in Millie coming from the Inner-world and taking back Zoie's sparkler, but she leaves her a magic ring for her protection.

Fourteen-year-old Zoie Pendragon visits her grandparents at their farm, which is called Whispering Oaks. Zoie makes friends with an Elfin Guardian named Shamus. Shamus assigns a Wish Fairy by the name of Millie to be with Zoie.

Apache: A warrior race of people with a history longer than sand has passed through the hour glass of time. The nation's economy, like that of other Indian tribes, was based primarily on hunting and raiding; they were hunters and warriors of the first degree. History says that it was Spanish Conquistadors under the command of Francisco Coronado (1510 - 1554) who first made contact with the Apache and traded with them. The Spaniards referred to the Apache as the "dog people" because they did not have horses and traveled with much of their burdens being carried by dogs described as being white with black or brown spots. Where the Comanche ran up on their enemy shouting and screaming, the Apache took a radical approach of a silent swift attack that his victim did not hear coming.

Comanche: A warrior race of people with a history longer than sand has passed through the hourglass of time. The nation's economy, like that of other Plains Indian tribes, was based primarily on the buffalo; they were hunters and warriors of the first degree. They warred with everyone. By the middle of the 18th century, they had taken up horse breeding and had herds numbering in the thousands. Their name, given to them by the Ute Indians from their word komantsi, which means enemy.

The Nenuphar soldier was nearing his headquarters when his onometer blinked to life. "Robearus," said Lord Drayfus. "That place where you were, the Pecos Mine. It has been discovered that one of our soldiers named Monus is there. He has been a renegade for over eight years. The Great Majesty has tried to recall him, but to no avail. He has been fraternizing with the humans. That's almost as bad a crime as having an Elfin for a friend." "Sir," Robearus spoke into the faceplate of his onometer. "What is it you expect me to do?" "I want you to get him," growled the wizard.

Unexpected Adventures picks up two years after The Curse as 16 year old high school student Brittany Standish accompanies her cousins Makayla and Taya to Lake Powell for spring break. There is a serious accident on the highway and Brittany uses the magic sparkler she doesn't know she has. She rescues and restores life to a family. Shamus shows up to protect her and Robearus, brother of the Nenuphar soldier in book one, also shows up tracking the Elfin magic.

Cherokee: A wonderful people with a history longer than sand has passed through the hour glass of time. The nation's economy, like that of other southeastern tribes, was based primarily on agriculture; they were farmers growing corn, beans, squash, sunflowers and tobacco. Because of the abuse they had suffered at the hands of the Iroquois and Delaware, they practiced the art of war. Using their bows and arrows, they hunted bear, elk and deer.

Meredith spent his entire life being angry with his mother for not documenting his ancestry. For leaving the home of his heritage and dragging him out across the country so that he lost touch with his family and his roots. He spent much of his life wondering if he had not just fallen from the sky one day. In a phone conversation with his elder sister Leah, she said, "Missouri? Why in the world would you want to go back to Missouri?" Without a thought, he answered. "I'm sixty-six years old and I want to go back because I want to be buried amongst my own kind."

Teenage Brittany Standish travels to spend the summer at her grandfather's farm, a property called Whispering Oaks. Unintentionally using "Ocular Sinister" while taking a nap, she captures and makes friends with the Elfin Guardian, Shamus. They are a leprechaun-like group of folks who possess great magic. Going to Torgilson's store, she is almost attacked by a large male African lion.

The American Civil War, one of the most violent wars ever fought, started in reality in 1850, when the Compromise of 1850 deposed the Missouri Compromise of 1820 and made "Popular Vote", by which the decision would be made, to designate a state free or slave. Kansas became the test, northerners and southerners both pour into the territory, voting to make that new state what either side preferred.

Hearing the hoofbeats of 20 horses entering the yard at the front of her house, Mattea pulled the lead rope, releasing the cow she was milking and ran into the house to find five Sioux braves wearing war paint sitting at her table, smoking her husband's tobacco from the humidor on the mantle.

This is the story of 12-year-old Annie Jewel Bounds, taken from letters and publications of the time; the story of a girl who would have gone off to war with her father, but when he is lost in battle, she convinces her mother to allow her to dress as a Yankee drummer boy and march off with a unit that will be discharged in just six weeks. Her adventure places her in the thick of the fire and smoke at the Battle of Wilson's Creek, Missouri. Fought on August 10, 1861, it is the first battle of the Civil War.

The stories written in this book are typical of those found throughout history. The explorers of the old world discovered a continent that was new to them, and they jabbed their flag into the ground and claimed that land for their sovereign. There was no regard for the native peoples of that land. At first, welcoming the Spanish, Dutch, Portuguese, French, and English onto their shores, the Indians soon discovered that the strangers in their land were not there to live peacefully beside the Indian.

This is a fictitious account of Pete Peterson's adventures in the navy, based in part on the author's own real-life experiences.
