A letter arrives at Nest Cottage, warning of danger for all former companions of the Doctor. Intrigued, Mrs Wibbsey begins a correspondence with one Polly Wright - and soon finds herself with an unexpected guest for Christmas. But shadows are gathering in the Hexford snow and old scores are waiting to be settled. The TARDIS lands in a primeval forest, and the Doctor meets Leela, a warrior banished from her tribe. He learns that an ongoing war between the Sevateem and the Tesh was instigated by Xoanon, the god they both worship. In reality, an all-powerful computer, Xoanon, is possessed by a desperate madness directly related to the Doctor - one which only the Time Lord can rectify! In order to do battle with Xoanon, the Doctor must escape, not only from the savage practices of the Sevateem but also from the mind-controlling impulses of the Tesh. 

When Professor Irene Hyde's Monday morning lecture at St Luke's University is rudely interrupted by a man named the Doctor, it's the beginning of an adventure she could never have dreamt possible. Soon they are hurtling backwards in time to 1806, where the crew of the trading ship Favorite, led by the 'Ice King' himself, Frederic Tudor, are being picked off, one by one, by a hideous monster that lurks in the shadows.

The inhabitants of the planet Karfel are suffering under the tyrannical rule of their leader, the Borad, who has brought his world to the brink of interplanetary war. Those who dare to oppose the will of the Borad are mercilessly sacrificed to the Timelash, a fate considered by many to be worse than death. When the Doctor arrives on Karfel, he soon discovers the Borad's horrifying plan - and realises he must be stopped at all costs.

A squad of UNIT troops is escorting a nuclear missile through the English countryside, whilst nearby knights in armour are fighting battles with broadswords, guns and grenades. The Doctor arrives on the scene and meets two old friends: Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart and Bessie, the souped-up Edwardian roadster. Why do the knights address him as 'Merlin', and what is the power of the sword that Ace retrieves from the bottom of a lake? Will the wicked Morgaine carry out her threat to destroy the world.

The TARDIS materialises on a remote island, set in a sea of acid, on the planet Marinus. The Doctor, Susan, Ian and Barbara meet Arbitan, keeper of a vast computer which rules and balances the gentle life of Marinus. Yet peace on the planet is threatened by the sub-human Voord, who wish to take control of the Conscience. Arbitan enlists the travellers to find the five crucial Keys of Marinus in various locations across the planet. Thus begins a series of terrifying adventures for the Doctor and his friends, who must find the Keys if they wish to ever to see the TARDIS again.

From the moment they land on the planet Androzani Minor, everything goes wrong for the Doctor and his new young companion, Peri. They become involved in the struggle between brutal gun runners, ruthless Federation troops, and the hideously mutilated Sharaz Jek, who lurks in the depths of the caves with his android army. Key to the struggle is spectrox, the most valuable substance in the universe. Suitably processed, spectrox is an elixir of life, but in its raw state it is a deadly poison - a fact which will cost the Doctor another of his Time Lord lives.... 

London, England, 1952. Meet the mercurial genius Professor Quanderhorn (James Fleet) - a maverick scientist with absolutely no moral compass. But in that plant, known as the Exon strain, there lurks the Destruction Factor. As it rapidly grows - shooting up from six inches to two feet in mere hours - the plant produces oxygen at massively increased levels, sparking uncontrollable fires.
