The Call of Cthulhu is one of the defining works of cosmic horror and one of the most influential supernatural stories of the twentieth century. Told through documents, investigations, strange reports, and disturbing fragments, the story follows the gradual uncovering of a terrifying truth hidden beneath dreams, cult activity, ancient symbols, and unexplained events. At the center of the mystery lies Cthulhu, an immense and otherworldly entity whose existence suggests that humanity is small, fragile, and almost insignificant before the vast forces of the universe.

At the heart of these stories, as with all the best of Lovecraft’s work, is the belief that the Earth was once inhabited by powerful and evil gods, just waiting for the chance to recolonise their planet. Cthulhu is one such god, lurking deep beneath the sea until called into being by cult followers who – like all humans – know not what they do.

LONDON, 1891. Elizabeth Whittle and William Grant enjoy scalping London’s bourgeoisie, taking on the personas of grand spiritist Cerulia Trent and her agent to connect the living and the dead. When a detective arrives, sniffing out fraud with a scientifically minded spiritualist society, the duo decides to take one last job before escaping to the continent. However, their final séance ends horrifically … and soon Lizzie isn’t Lizzie anymore.

The power to control the elements, at the cost of your humanity. Long ago, the gods blessed mankind with the power to call the elements, but at a terrible price. Without the protection of a ward rune, the power wilds its users, twisting them into monsters resembling the element they control. Wilding and runes have never been of great concern to 16-year-old Elias. His talented half-brother Marc was given a rune by Gaya’s Holy Grove not long after being blessed with lifecalling, so Elias has never worried much about the wilding that happens to unmarked callers.

The Call of Cthulhu is one of the most influential horror stories ever written, laying the foundation for what is now known as cosmic horror. First published in 1928, this short story by H. P. Lovecraft follows a fragmented investigation into a strange cult, a mysterious bas-relief, and disturbing accounts that point toward the existence of an ancient and incomprehensible entity. As the narrator assembles documents, testimonies, and reports, a terrifying realization begins to emerge: humanity is neither central nor safe in the universe it inhabits.

It is the autumn of 1910, and for 15 long years, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson have battled R’lluhloig, the Hidden Mind that was once Professor James Moriarty. Europe is creeping inexorably towards war, and a more cosmic conflict is nearing its zenith, as in a single night all the most eminent members of the Diogenes Club die horribly, seemingly by their own hands. Holmes suspects it is the handiwork of a German spy working for R’lluhloig, but his search for vengeance costs an old friend his life.

A series of grisly murders rocks London. At each location, only a jumble of bones remains of the deceased, along with a bizarre sphere covered in strange symbols. The son of the latest victim seeks the help of Sherlock Holmes and his former partner, Dr. John Watson. They discover the common thread tying together the murders. Bizarre geometries, based on ancient schematics, enable otherworldly creatures to enter our dimension, seeking to wreak havoc and destruction.

Originally written for the pulp magazines of the 1920s and '30s, H. P. Lovecraft's astonishing tales blend elements of horror, science fiction, and cosmic terror that are as powerful today as they were when first published. This tome brings together all of Lovecraft's harrowing stories, including the complete Cthulhu Mythos cycle, just the way they were when first released.

This volume covers H.P. Lovecraft's "apprentice years" - roughly the first half of his literary career, the half written before his return to Providence in 1926. Every story written for publication under his own name is included in this volume, from 1917 through 1925.
