Edward Pellew, captain of the legendary Indefatigable, was quite simply the greatest British frigate captain in the age of sail. Left fatherless at age eight, with a penniless mother and five siblings, Pellew fought his way from the very bottom of the navy to fleet command. Victories and eye-catching feats won him a public following. Yet he had a gift for antagonizing his better-born peers, and he made powerful enemies. Redemption came with his last command, when he set off to do battle with the Barbary States and free thousands of European slaves.

We fell in love during the campaign. The stakes were high. Reputations could have been ruined. Scandal hovered over us like a cloud. Now the man I love is the President of the United States of America. And it's not my vote he's after. He wants it all - my heart, my body, my soul. He wants me by his side. In the White House. Normalcy will be gone from my life, privacy forgotten. I am only 23. I just wanted to play a part in history. But it seems like history wasn't done with me.

Theo Von Bremen. Aloof, elite, and baseball's next MVP, his name hangs on every woman's next breath. Except for mine. All I want to know is if we're having tacos tonight - it's his turn to buy. Friendships like ours are forged from drunken sleepovers and Roommates Gone Wild episodes - nothing could ever tear us apart. Except...my v-card. And maybe...my new job with six marines. But we can handle this, right?

My instincts had always served me well. Listening to my gut, the warning voice in my head that told me when to walk away. I never failed to heed the signs. Until the day she walked into my office. I knew she would be trouble, but I ignored the alarm bells. And then it was too late, and I fell. Hard.

I came to Charleston for music, not men. This city is just another stop on my way to something bigger. A few months of playing, then I’m gone. No attachments. No complications. Then I see him. Atlas Dane. Silent. Watchful. Built like a warrior, dressed like a king. He doesn’t belong at an event like this, hulking in a tuxedo while I play for people who sip champagne and pretend they understand Bach. But he’s not pretending. He watches my hands like he already knows what they can do. He speaks in low, measured words that make my breath catch. And when I trip—because I always do—he’s there.

But a new investigation into a missing cargo ship uncovers a much bigger conspiracy against the Alliance, and questions about the loyalties of his AIs threaten to unravel his home life.
