  • What is Agency and How Can It Help Reduce Parent and Teen Conflict? with Isla Reddin | S4E12
    30 Oct 2026

How can parents help teens build confidence, independence, and agency without turning every conflict into a power struggle?

“They’re not a problem to be fixed. They are kids doing the best they can to navigate their way towards adulthood,” says Isla Reddin as she shares practical ways to understand what’s behind teen behavior, strengthen communication, and support families and educators as they help young people find their footing.

If you can define it, you can measure it - if you can measure it, you can achieve it. Listen to what agency looks like in this episode!

About Isla Reddin Isla Reddin is an executive coach, adolescent development advocate, and founder of Crack the Teen Code, where she helps parents build stronger connections with their teenagers while fostering the confidence, judgment, and sense of agency young people need to navigate adulthood.

Drawing on her experience in leadership development, executive coaching, curriculum writing and training K12 teachers, and raising two sons, Isla challenges traditional approaches that prioritize control and compliance over connection, capability, and personal responsibility. Her work focuses on helping adults better understand what drives adolescent behavior and respond in ways that build trust, strengthen relationships, and encourage young people to take increasing ownership of their lives.

Isla believes that agency develops not by shielding young people from every challenge, but by giving them opportunities to make decisions, navigate setbacks, and discover their own capabilities. Passionate about extending this conversation beyond the family, Isla advocates for greater collaboration among parents, educators, and youth-serving organizations to create environments where young people can thrive.

Her guiding belief is simple: Our responsibility is not to manage young people's lives, but to prepare them to manage their own.

    • a special gift from Joy to our listeners!

About Joy-Yafit Pascal: Joy-Yafit Pascal is a transformational speaker, Design Thinking coach, women's empowerment facilitator, and dance improvisation instructor who helps people stop living on autopilot and start creating lives they truly want.

A life-changing experience led her to rethink everything she believed about happiness, purpose, and what it means to truly live. Since then, she is on her journey to help people in general, and women in particular, to reconnect with themselves, embrace uncertainty, and make courageous choices that lead to a more meaningful and fulfilling life. She combines practical Design Thinking principles with movement, creativity, and powerful mindset shifts to create lasting transformation.

Joy is a graduate of Tony Robbins' Mastery University and Leadership Mastery and is serving as a senior leader, supporting people through transformational events. Her message is simple but unforgettable: Life is short, and the greatest risk is not failure, it's reaching the end of life wondering if you truly lived.
