Some of the most successful careers were never planned. In this episode of the Business Legacy Podcast, Paul Dio sits down with Paige Arnof-Fenn, founder and CEO of Mavens & Moguls, a global marketing and branding firm based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Paige calls herself the accidental entrepreneur. She never wrote a business plan, yet she has run her firm for 25 years.

Paige grew up planning to be a banker like her father and both grandfathers, and started her career as an investment banking analyst on Wall Street. Realizing she wanted a balance of analytics and creativity, she went back to business school, discovered marketing, and went on to build brands at Procter & Gamble and Coca-Cola. Wanting her work to truly matter, she left a prestigious corporate role to lead marketing at three venture backed startups during Internet 1.0, all of which achieved successful exits, including an IPO and a sale to Yahoo.

When the economy froze after 9/11 and marketing departments were laid off, investors and founders began calling Paige for help. She rallied former colleagues she called the marketing mavens and moguls, and the firm was born. Paige shares how she evaluated startups by asking whether she understood how they made money, why she never again took a job for the money alone, and why AI can be a great tool for marketers but never a strategy.

The conversation turns personal as Paige reflects on a six year period in which she and her husband lost seven close family members. That chapter redefined success for her, from titles and possessions to relationships, memories, and time with the people who matter. She also shares a surprising business lesson from that season. When she stopped chasing every prospect and gave clients space, she won more than her fair share of business.
