  • SWITCHED ON (MOOG COVERS 1968-1975)

    SWITCHED ON (MOOG COVERS 1968-1975)
    Feb 7 2023
In 1968 (That's more than 50 years ago) Wendy Carlos released her debut album Switched-On-Bach, a collection of pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach performed on a Moog synthesizer. The album became an unexpected commercial success, which helped change people's perceptions of the synthesizer from a noisy machine to a musical instrument. Switched-On-Bach received a poor reception from classical music purists, but it became very popular among young people interested in electronic sounds, for whom the words "switched on" evoked the druggy/erotic idea of "turned on". The album was so popular that it became the second classical album to be certified platinum and triggered a paradigm shift, in which electronic instruments were started seen as something more than just "beeps and bloops" In the years that followed, musicians and record labels all over the world copied the idea and produced a large number of "switched-on" type albums, including not only Moog renditions of classical music but also pop, rock, folk, country, and other styles. This mix is a selection of some of these Moog "trippy" covers. Let's get switched-on ! • BEYOND THE BABY VOICE, A MIXTAPE OF HIGH PITCH VOCALS IN CONTEMPORARY RAP

BEYOND THE BABY VOICE, A MIXTAPE OF HIGH PITCH VOCALS IN CONTEMPORARY RAP
    Dec 13 2022
The 4th episode of this season is a collection of contemporary rap songs using high-pitched vocal techniques. A variety of high-pitched rapping styles have taken over streaming platforms in recent years, and there is one rapper to blame: Young Thug, His high dynamic boundary-pushing (and full of voice-cracks) style of singing, could be considered the origin of the current high-pitch rapping trend. This trend includes different "styles" of singing: falsetto, voice cracks, vocal chord abuse, squeaky rap (or mosquito rap), pitched-up vocals, nasal high-pitch singing, and the famous "baby voice", among others. A lot of articles have been written recently about "the baby voice", the singing style popularised by Playboi Carti, which is basically singing with the higher pitch voice "of a baby". This style made it to the headlines of the main music outlets. While some rappers adopted the baby voice in their delivery after Playboi Carti made it popular, many others have been using various high-pitched rapping styles before, during, and after Carti's famous style went viral. This radio episode brings together a huge variety of high-pitch contemporary rap, focusing not only on "the baby voice" but on all types of high-pitched vocals, from the underground to the mainstream, passing thru meme parody songs, where, for example, we can hear mickey mouse dissing goofy over some sick beats. I hope you like it. Tracklist 1 - Intro2 - Voochie P - Intro3 - Smokepurpp - MOB4 - Young Thug - Pour It Up5 - TyFontaine - Duse N Juice (Feat.
