Is There an Unseen World of Spirits?

Angels and Demons | Week 1

Is the spirit world real or just folklore? As Halloween approaches, we’re kicking off our Angels and Demons series by exploring what the Bible actually teaches about the unseen world. From Elisha’s chariots of fire to Jesus’ authority over evil spirits, Scripture reveals a spiritual reality that should lead us closer to Jesus—without becoming consumed by fascination or fear.

    The Unseen World Is Real

The Bible describes a spiritual dimension that exists alongside our own. When enemy forces surrounded Elisha, his servant saw only danger. Elisha prayed for God to open the young man’s eyes, revealing a hillside filled with horses and chariots of fire. God’s protection was already present before the servant could see it.

    Key Scripture: 2 Kings 6:15–17

Jesus Has Authority Over Evil Spirits

Jesus treated the spiritual world as real throughout his earthly ministry. He faced Satan’s temptation, received help from angels, and commanded evil spirits to leave. In the synagogue at Capernaum, an evil spirit recognized Jesus as the Holy One of God—and had to obey his command. The unseen world is subject to his authority.

    Key Scripture: Mark 1:23–26

Jesus Is Supreme Over All Creation

Scripture describes different spiritual beings, ranks, and roles, but Jesus stands above them all. He is the eternal, uncreated Son of God. Everything visible and invisible was created through him. No spiritual power rivals his authority.

    Key Scripture: Colossians 1:15–16

Stay Focused on Jesus and His Mission

We can make two opposite mistakes: dismissing the spiritual world altogether or developing an unhealthy obsession with it. The Bible calls us to take spiritual opposition seriously while keeping our attention on Jesus. Even in prison, Paul asked for prayer to proclaim the gospel boldly. His awareness of spiritual warfare strengthened his commitment to the mission.

    Key Scriptures: Ephesians 6:12, 19–20

    The Takeaway

Knowing about the spirit world should lead us to Jesus, not to fascination or fear. Our response is to trust his authority, depend on him in prayer, and boldly share the good news.

  • Luke: The Road to Emmaus

    The Road to Emmaus

Can you know a lot about Jesus and still miss who he really is? In the final week of our Luke series, we follow two discouraged disciples on the road to Emmaus. As the risen Jesus walks beside them, their disappointment gives way to understanding—and an encounter that changes their direction.

Walking through Luke 24, we explore how Jesus meets us in our questions, reveals himself through Scripture, and invites us to respond in faith. Whether you’re exploring Christianity or have attended church for years, this story raises a personal question: Have you moved from knowing about Jesus to trusting him?

    In this episode:

    • Jesus is on the journey with us—even when we don’t realize it. Two grieving disciples walk beside the risen Savior without recognizing him. (Luke 24:13–18)
    • We can have a lot of details right about Jesus and still miss the real thing. They knew Jesus as a prophet, miracle-worker, and teacher, but struggled to understand a Messiah who suffered. (Luke 24:19–21)
    • We can always find reasons to doubt—even when we’re surrounded by witnesses. Reports of the empty tomb hadn’t yet brought these disciples to confidence in the resurrection. (Luke 24:22–24)
    • Scripture helps us see who Jesus really is. Jesus explains how Moses and the prophets pointed to his suffering and glory. (Luke 24:25–27)
    • The more Jesus makes himself known, the hungrier we get for his presence. The disciples urge him to stay, recognize him at the table, and hurry back to Jerusalem to share what happened. (Luke 24:28–34)

Your next step: Jesus died for our sins and rose again. You don’t have to understand everything before you respond. Turn to him, trust him as your Savior, and begin following him today.

  • Luke: How Do I Get to Heaven?
    Oct 11 2026
Week 4: How Do I Get to Heaven?

Have you ever wondered whether you’ve done enough to get to heaven? In Week 4 of our Luke series, we explore Jesus’ conversation with a rich religious leader in Luke 18. His question—“What should I do to inherit eternal life?”—reveals an assumption many of us share: that being good enough can earn us a place with God. Jesus’ answer challenges that assumption and points us toward something far better.

    Being Good Isn’t Enough

The religious leader approached Jesus with confidence in his record of obedience. He had kept the commandments since he was young. But before addressing his behavior, Jesus challenged his understanding of goodness—and his understanding of Jesus himself.

Luke 18:19 (NLT) “Why do you call me good?” Jesus asked him. “Only God is truly good.”

Getting to heaven begins with recognizing who Jesus is, not measuring ourselves against other people. Outward obedience can make us feel spiritually secure while hiding a heart that hasn’t surrendered to God.

What’s Keeping You from Following Jesus?

Jesus told the man to sell his possessions, give the money to the poor, and follow him. This wasn’t a universal requirement to give everything away to be saved. Jesus was exposing this man’s deepest barrier to faith: his wealth had become his god.

Luke 18:22 (NLT) When Jesus heard his answer, he said, “There is still one thing you haven’t done. Sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

The man became very sad because he was very rich. His response invites us to examine our own hearts. Whether it’s money, lust, anger, or control, what are we holding onto that keeps us from trusting and following Jesus?

    God Makes Salvation Possible

When Jesus warned how difficult it is for the rich to enter God’s kingdom, those listening asked a better question: “Then who in the world can be saved?” They were beginning to recognize that salvation is beyond our ability to accomplish.

Luke 18:27 (NLT) He replied, “What is impossible for people is possible with God.”

We are not saved by what we do, but by what Jesus has already done. He lived the perfect, sinless life we could not live. He paid the complete penalty for our sins on the cross. And he rose from the dead, conquering sin and death so we could receive eternal life as a free gift.
