This week on the dating podcast, I’m trying to solve one of the strangest phrases I’ve seen on a dating profile: “Short term… but long term okay.” What does that actually mean? Are we dating, hooking up, or applying for a temporary position with the possibility of permanent employment?

We get into the madness of modern dating language, mixed intentions, casual relationships, commitment, and why dating apps are starting to feel less like romance and more like a bloody job interview. I genuinely don’t have the answer on this one, so I’m throwing it out to you: what does “short term, long term okay” actually mean?

This week’s Movie of the Week is The Equalizer, with Denzel Washington at his absolute best as Robert McCall, calm, controlled, quietly dangerous, and somehow more intimidating because he barely needs to raise his voice. We get into why McCall stands apart from action heroes like James Bond, Jason Bourne and Bryan Mills from Taken, and whether Denzel’s sheer presence and swagger might actually put him on top in a straight fight.

We also look at the human side of the story, especially McCall’s decision to protect Teri, plus the behind-the-scenes trivia around Denzel shaping the character, Chloë Grace Moretz fighting for the role, Antoine Fuqua’s direction, and how this film became the beginning of Denzel’s first trilogy. It’s brutal, stylish, surprisingly warm, and one of those movies that works because there’s far more going on than just action.
