What if the thing you're waiting for isn't actually the next thing you need?

In St. Matthew 25, Jesus tells the Parable of the Talents. And despite how we often use the word talent today, the original story wasn't about someone's ability to sing, write, teach, paint, or play the piano.

A talent was a measure of wealth.

But beneath the financial story is a much larger question:

What do you do with what has been entrusted to you?

Your money.

Your ideas.

Your knowledge.

Your opportunities.

Your relationships.

Your experiences.

We can spend a lot of time asking God for more. More clarity. More resources. Another opportunity. A better connection.

An open door.

But perhaps there are moments when the question isn't what we're waiting to receive. It's what we're doing with what we already have.

In Part I, we look closely at the three servants—and especially the one who received a single talent. Guess what, he didn't lose it. He didn't squander it. He protected it and returned exactly what he had received.

But he never put it to work. And that leaves us with an uncomfortable question:

Is protecting something always the same as stewarding it?

Maybe not.

Some stories take time before we're ready to tell them.

Not because we're ashamed of what happened, but because healing doesn't always happen when the event ends.

Sometimes healing looks like finally being able to tell the story without needing to change the ending.

In the final chapter of The Origin, I reflect on the woman I was before everything changed—and why I no longer want to go back to being her.

She loved deeply. But now that love includes wisdom.

For a long time, I saw them as individual pieces.

Eventually, I realized they were branches growing from the same tree.

Maybe that's how purpose sometimes develops—not as a complete blueprint, but one piece at a time.

We plant what we've been given, tend what begins growing, and keep moving even when we can't see the whole tree yet.

Life does not ask permission before it changes.

It doesn't send a calendar invitation or warn us that one phone call, diagnosis, loss, or unexpected responsibility may change everything.

After sharing so much of my story throughout The Origin, Part V asks a different question:

What did all of it teach me?

In this episode, I share some of the lessons that fundamentally changed the way I understand preparation, love, strength, boundaries, money, time, and hope.

I learned that preparation doesn't have to come from fear.

Being prepared can be an act of love.

Strong people still need help.

Healthy boundaries can protect relationships.

Money is emotional—because underneath many financial decisions are feelings such as fear, hope, guilt, responsibility, shame, and generosity.

And ordinary moments matter more than we sometimes realize.

But perhaps the greatest lesson was understanding that my story didn't only happen to me.

Maybe it happened through me.

Maybe lived experience can help someone else prepare sooner, have a difficult conversation, create a financial safeguard, seek support, or simply realize they're not alone.

I didn't share my story because it's extraordinary.

I shared it because it's true.

And sometimes truth is where freedom begins.
