  • When a Brand Deal Starts Costing You Control
    5 Oct 2026

A sponsorship or brand deal can bring in revenue and still reduce the long-term value of the creator-led business you are building.

Approval requirements, exclusivity, creative limits, reputational risk, and pressure to protect the relationship can all cost more than time.

In this episode of The Intentional Operator, we look at how to evaluate the entire deal—not only the fee.

The right partnership can create revenue, introduce you to useful products, and grow into a valuable business relationship. But the wrong one can limit your flexibility, weaken audience trust, or make you more dependent on income that does not fully align with your business.

    This episode explores:

    • Audience trust
    • Creative control
    • Exclusivity and future flexibility
    • Reputational risk
    • The difference between revenue and strategic value
    • Why financial clarity can make it easier to say no when the fit is wrong

  • How Follow for Follow May Have Led Us All Astray
    28 Sep 2026

For years, small-business owners were encouraged to follow one another, support one another’s pages, and celebrate the rising follower count.

The number grew—but what was that number actually made of?

In this episode of The Intentional Operator, I reconsider follow-for-follow as a business-growth strategy.

A network of peers can be useful, but it is not automatically a customer market. Influencers may have an economic reason to treat reach itself as part of the product. A traditional business eventually needs some of that attention to become website visits, leads, purchases, or returning customers.

Meta says activity and interactions help shape the content and recommendations people see. That raises a reasonable question: could years of heavily peer-to-peer behavior contribute to self-reinforcing recommendation patterns?

That does not prove that a platform punished an account, permanently classified a business, or blocked customers.

The larger point is not that businesses should abandon social media. It is that we should become more intentional about what we measure, who we attract, and whether the audience we are building can actually support the business we operate.

What is your social audience made of—peers, prospects, customers, or some combination?

  • Are You Hiring for the Title—or for the Work?
    21 Sep 2026

A job title is not a capability.

When employers screen for familiar titles, prestigious education, and perfectly linear resumes before clearly defining the work, they may overlook candidates who have already demonstrated the judgment, adaptability, communication, and transferable skills the role requires.

In this episode of The Intentional Operator, we examine why exact-title matches feel safer, what a resume may leave out, and how clearer role design helps hiring teams separate true requirements from inherited preferences.

We also discuss practical ways to evaluate component experience through structured interviews, capability-based scorecards, and proportionate work samples.

The goal is not to favor the unconventional candidate automatically or dismiss legitimate credentials. It is to evaluate every candidate against the actual outcomes, decisions, problems, knowledge, and relationships the role requires.
