  • Ep. 85 Sunday Message - Shine Bright: Don’t Let Darkness Win by Default
    1 Nov 2026

    Send us Fan Mail

Brother, your faith wasn’t meant to stay in your back pocket.

You can provide for your family, show up at church, and keep your nose clean - and still hide the light the people around you desperately need.

In this Sunday Message, Kevin English gets personal about spending nearly twenty years treating his salvation like a get-out-of-hell-free card: tucked away, rarely discussed, and producing very little fruit.

Then a statement from his pastor hit home: “The only thing darkness needs to prevail is for the light to refuse to shine.”

Drawing from Matthew 5:14–16, Kevin challenges men to stop waiting until they feel qualified, stop hiding behind busyness, and start living their faith where it counts.

That starts at your dinner table. In your workplace. With the buddy who’s struggling and the neighbor you keep meaning to check on.

You don’t need a seminary degree to take the next faithful step. You need a willingness to follow Jesus - even when your voice shakes.

    In this episode:

    · The cost of staying quiet: How keeping your faith to yourself can become an excuse for staying comfortable.

    · The “lamp shopper” problem: Why waiting until you know more or feel ready keeps your light covered.

    · Name your bowl: Recognizing the excuses that hide your faith—busyness, insecurity, and fear of being “that guy.”

    · Integrity starts at home: What your wife and kids see when you’re tired and frustrated matters.

    · Boldness with gentleness: How to speak honestly about Jesus with courage and respect.

    · Brotherhood that builds courage: Why every man needs other men asking, “Where did you shine this week, and where did you hide?”

    Your five-step training plan

Just like building strength, living your faith takes consistent reps. Kevin lays out five practical ways to begin:

    1. Pray daily for one person who needs light.

    2. Show up with integrity at work and at home.

    3. Serve someone quietly, even when it costs you something.

    4. Say one honest sentence about your faith out loud.

    5. Link arms with other men for prayer and accountability.

Start with the empty bar. Be faithful. Add weight as you grow.

    Your challenge this week

Read Matthew 5:14–16 every day. Choose one of the five practices and put it into action. At the end of the week, reflect on where you shined, where you hid, and what you learned. Then share that with another man.

The goal is to help people see Jesus through the way you live, love, serve, and speak.

    Scriptures explored: John 1:5; Matthew 5:14–16; Ephesians 5:8; John 8:12; Colossians 4:3; 1 Peter 2:12; Matthew 6:1; 1 Peter 3:15; Proverbs 27:17; Hebrews 10:24–25; Philippians 2:15–16; Romans 12:11.

Take the bowl off, brother. Shine bright.

  • Ep. 84 - Flock Cameras, Cold Beer & Your Man Card: Where Do You Draw the Line?
    30 Oct 2026

    Send us Fan Mail

You don’t want somebody tracking your every move. But if your family were in danger, would you want police using every tool available to find them?

    That question gets uncomfortable fast.

This week, Kevin English and Coach Russell Medeiros tackle Flock cameras, privacy, and the tension between protecting our freedom and protecting the people we love. Kevin brings a healthy dose of suspicion. Russell brings his experience as a former detective - and a question that gives Kevin something to think about.

But first, we’ve got some important man business to settle: Does drinking non-alcoholic beer put your man card at risk? And who decided a guy needs to explain himself for ordering water?

Kevin shares the unexpected conversation that challenged his relationship with alcohol - and why his decision to quit had more to do with feeling comfortable in his own skin than anything happening in the gym.

We also talk about raising kids who actually want to talk to you, the expensive privilege of being a horse dad, and how social media can convince you everybody else has six-pack abs, a yacht, and a life that makes yours look like a clerical error.

It’s a Friday conversation with plenty of laughs and a few questions worth taking into your weekend.

    In this episode:

    • Be the dad they come to. Russell talks about earning his teenage son’s trust—and learning when to offer advice instead of a lecture.
    • Enter their world. Kevin shares how horses, soccer, and punk shows helped him build lasting relationships with his kids.
    • The Man Card ruling on non-alcoholic beer. Social pressure, $16 mocktails, and the freedom to say, “I just don’t want a drink.”
    • The question behind Kevin’s sobriety. Why did he feel like he needed alcohol to fit in—and could he learn to show up without it?
    • Flock cameras and the privacy debate. We discuss surveillance, the potential for misuse, and why the view can change when you’re trying to solve a violent crime.
    • Your feed is messing with your perspective. Comparison, outrage, and how an endless scroll can distort your picture of everyday life.
    • Brotherhood takes intention. Why Kevin is making a point of staying connected to a handful of men he can be honest with.

    Your challenge this week

Start a real conversation. Say hello to somebody on your walk. Reach out to a friend you’ve been meaning to call. Make plans with the guys who help you become a better man.

Kevin and Russell close with their own commitments to sharpen their relational edge. Take a minute to choose yours.

  • Ep. 83 - Man Cards, Manicures & Why Men Open Up at the Barbershop
    23 Oct 2026

    Send us Fan Mail

Can a man get a pedicure and keep his man card? Why do we trust a headline before we check the facts? And when did the barbershop become the place guys actually open up?

This week on The Alpha Edge Podcast, Kevin English and Coach Russell Medeiros cover everything from fishing boats and ridiculous feats of strength to fatherhood, fear-driven headlines, and the conversations men need to have.

Kevin’s back on the water with a new boat. Russell takes his teenage boys aboard a Coast Guard cutter - and discovers that three months in Alaska is a tough recruiting pitch when you’ve just shown them an office with free snacks.

    Then things get interesting.

There’s a Turkish get-up that makes most of our gym accomplishments look considerably less impressive. Russell makes a confession about manicures. And the guys debate whether putting on a sharp suit qualifies as a performance enhancement.

But between the laughs, the conversation gets real - Where do men go when they need someone to listen?

Russell shares how his barbershop became a place to talk during a difficult separation - and why a haircut, a hot towel, and a roomful of guys meant more than he expected.

    In this episode:

    · Boats, brotherhood, and showing up: Fishing buddies, early mornings, and making time for the things you love.

    · Fatherhood with teenagers: Creating opportunities to connect without forcing every moment.

    · Strength beyond the bench press: Why the Turkish get-up gets Kevin’s vote for strength, balance, stability, and coordination.

    · The great grooming debate: Manicures, massages, sharp suits, and the limits of the one-bar-of-soap lifestyle.

    · Headlines versus reality: Checking the facts before letting the internet tell you how worried to be.

    · Keeping your options open: Side hustles, useful skills, and a brief detour into disturbingly realistic robots.

    · More than a haircut: Barbershops, honest conversations, and the value of having a place to let your guard down.

    · This week’s edge: Russell recommits to his sleep routine. Kevin gets honest about his slipping step count.

    Your challenge this week
Pick one habit you’ve let slide - and put it back on the calendar. Get to bed. Take the walk. Call a buddy. Make time with your kids. You don’t need a complete life overhaul to sharpen your edge. You need one deliberate action—and the willingness to follow through.
