Confession: One of us has been faking it… and somehow Eli completely missed the John Ritter movie where SATAN SUCKS PEOPLE INTO A TELEVISION.
In this episode of Confessions of a Film Poser, we finally watch Stay Tuned (1992) for the very first time and nothing could’ve prepared us for 24 hours of Hellvision.
Directed by Peter Hyams, Stay Tuned stars John Ritter and Pam Dawber as Roy and Helen Knable, a married couple already having problems when Roy’s obsession with television leads him to accept a suspicious new satellite dish. Before long, they’re literally sucked into a demonic TV universe where they have to survive twisted versions of television shows and movies if they ever want to make it home.
From killer game shows and cartoon chaos to wrestling, westerns, movie parodies, and Jeffrey Jones having the time of his life as the devilish Spike, we break down our raw first-time reaction, the jokes that landed, the ones that didn’t, and the completely bonkers imagination behind this forgotten piece of ’90s weirdness.
Is Stay Tuned an overlooked ’90s cult classic that was ahead of its time… or should Hellvision have stayed canceled?
If you’re into first-time movie reactions, forgotten ’90s movies, cult classics, and honest, unfiltered discussion—welcome to the Poser Movie Club.
