In episode 39 I do something a little different. For the first time, I’ve got a duo on the podcast, sitting down for a yarn with Kurt and Ash Bailey.

Kurt was signed to a major record label as a teenager before eventually moving from performing music to managing bands, spending years working behind the scenes with one of Australia’s biggest acts. A major health scare in his early twenties shifted his perspective on life and changed the direction he was heading in. Along the way, he met Ash, who left a career in fashion to join him in the music world. After years spent travelling and working in music, the pair developed a love for great food, restaurants and hospitality, eventually leading them to open Bar Yuki. We get into Kurt’s career in music, the turning points that influenced his outlook on life, and how he and Ash have branched into hospitality while remaining connected to the world of music.

Join me as I get familiar with the dynamic duo that is Kurt and Ash Bailey.

In episode 38, I sit down with Hayden Bridger, the man behind the famous Hayden’s Pies.

Starting out as a chef, Hayden eventually took the leap into opening his own pie shop, with plenty of long days, tears and triumphs along the way. We chat about becoming a pie maker, developing new recipes, building the business alongside his family, and creating and selling his own recipe book. Hayden also talks about buying his dream bush property and building his dream home, before experiencing some pretty scary times during the Black Summer bushfires. We get into his experiences with generational mental health and suicide, and how those experiences have shaped his life. It’s an honest look at the highs and lows behind the business and the life he’s built around it.

Grab yourself a cold can and get to know the King of Pies, Hayden Bridger.

In episode 37, I sit down with the compassionate human that is Kiah Butschi.

Originally from Switzerland and moving to Australia without speaking English, Kiah has taken a pretty unique path through life. She currently works in support and as a massage therapist, and has also spent years involved in environmental activism, human rights and aid work, including working in a refugee camp. She seems to have always had a strong drive to stand up for people, animals and the environment. We chat about her travels, the experiences that have shaped the way she sees the world, her political views and activism, and her experience during the Black Summer bushfires. It was great to sit down with Kiah and hear about the things that have shaped her outlook and the causes she’s chosen to stand up for.

Join me as I enter the world of the kind hearted, Kiah Butschi.
