Why do we keep having the same arguments? Why do I shut down when things get uncomfortable? Why am I trying to fix something when my partner just wants me to listen? Why do I keep doing something even when I know it isn't helping?

Review the Tape is a podcast about the patterns that show up in ourselves, our relationships, and everyday life.

Hosted by therapist Tracy Henderson, each episode takes a familiar situation and looks at what's actually happening underneath it not to decide who's right or wrong, but to understand the pattern, get curious about what it's doing, and identify something you can try differently.

Relationships. Emotions. Communication. Patterns. Parenting. Identity. The stuff we do and what we might do next.

No perfect answers. No ten-step formula for fixing your life.

Just an opportunity to review the tape, try something different, and see what happens.

  • Why Can't I Stop Thinking About It?
    Oct 6 2026

Why do we keep replaying the same conversation, decision, mistake, or worry even when we're no longer learning anything new?

Thinking can help us understand what happened, learn from an experience, and decide what to do next. But at some point, reviewing the tape can turn into leaving the tape running on a loop.

In this episode of Review the Tape, Tracy Henderson looks at the difference between useful reflection and rumination. We'll explore why repetitive thinking can feel productive, what we may be trying to accomplish by continuing to think, and how to recognize when there simply isn't any more information available right now.

The goal isn't to force yourself to stop thinking. It's to ask: Am I learning anything new? Is there actually something I can do with this right now?

Because sometimes something can still be unresolved without being actionable.

  • Why Does Everything Feel Like Criticism
    Oct 6 2026

Why can a simple question, comment, or even a sigh suddenly feel like criticism?

Sometimes we aren't only responding to what happened. We're responding to what we think what happened means.

In this episode of Review the Tape, Tracy Henderson looks at the space between an event and the story we build around it. We'll explore how history, expectations, assumptions, and our own experiences can shape what we hear and how quickly an interpretation can start driving what happens next.

The goal isn't to convince yourself that your interpretation is wrong. It's to learn to separate what you know from what you think you know, hold the story a little more lightly, and get more information before reacting to it.

  • Why Am I Always Trying to Fix It
    Sep 29 2026

Why is it that when someone we care about brings us a problem, we immediately start trying to solve it?

Often, we're genuinely trying to help. But sometimes the help we're offering isn't the help the other person needs.

In this episode of Review the Tape, Tracy Henderson looks at the difference between listening for the problem and listening for the person and what can happen when we assume we know which job we're being asked to do.

We'll slow down the urge to fix, ask “What am I trying to accomplish right now?”, and practice a simple way to find out whether someone wants us to listen, help them think something through, or actually help solve the problem.
