Red Wine with Fish is a brand new podcast from award-winning drinks writers and James Bond enthusiasts Millie Milliken, Neil Ridley and David T Smith, exploring the food and drink history of the 007 franchise.

Taking its name from one of the most pivotal scenes between Bond and one of his adversaries (namely Red Grant in From Russia with Love) Red Wine with Fish is a celebration of the hosts’ love for all things 007 through their expert lenses of spirits, wine, gastronomy and travel.

Using each book and film from Fleming’s canon (and beyond) as a starting point, Red Wine with Fish takes a historical and cultural look at what the characters in Bond’s myriad missions are eating and drinking. From dissecting the many versions of the Martini and making sense of obscure drinks cabinets to unearthing obscure (or fictional) wine vintages, charting the journey of some of the world’s most famous drinks brands and taste testing some of the more unusual culinary highlights, Milliken, Ridley and Smith eat and drink their way through the franchise, so the listener can too.

Sourcing bottles from around the world, as well as recreating recipes, reviewing drinks on air and comparing old versus new versions of some of the original dishes and beverages portrayed on the page or the screen, your hosts give their unholstered opinions on some of Fleming’s most famous inclusions, while also unearthing some lesser-known gems along the way.

From the Stinger to Blofeld’s poison, solera sherry to Irish Coffees, oysters to hamlets and much, much more, this is an unserious romp through one of the most-loved bodies of work for enthusiasts and newcomers alike.

Alongside regular episodes on the literary and cinematic outings of the world’s most famous spy, the series will also produce specials where deep dives have been done on peripheral subjects, such as notable spirits categories, cocktails and places of note, as well as interviews with people who have been close to the franchise, such as editors, actors and fellow fans too.

  • Red Wine with Fish - Theme tune
    4 Oct 2026

Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note.

Introducing our very own theme tune from resident composer and musician Neil Ridley - AKA 'Whisper'.

"I was toying around with the idea of how great it would be to write a Bond theme for years and finally the perfect opportunity arose, albeit on a much smaller scale!

"The beauty of all the great Bond themes, especially the incredibly broad work of John Barry, David Arnold - and especially George Martin on the 'Live and Let Die' soundtrack, (my personal favourite theme, with Wings) is that mix of classic cinematic orchestra sizzle and something contemporary.

"It's all in how to underpin drama and tension with utter bombastic joy: every explosive blast of brass, the romance of the strings, orchestral percussion, harp, and, of course, that unmistakable guitar chord at the end - to get geeky, an Em(Maj9)... I had a big smile after playing that.

I built up the track from scratch, either guitar bass and drums, then orchestrated the other parts over the top, getting a friend to play some trumpet on the crescendos.

I hope it makes you want to dive in, Martini in hand!"

Bottoms up!! - Neil - AKA 'Whisper'.

  • Shaken, not Stirred - Martini special
    4 Oct 2026

Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note.

In the first of many Martini specials, we rock up to London's Dukes Bar (@dukesbarlondon) to chat to legendary head bartender Alessandro Palazzi (@alessandro_palazzi) about perhaps one of the most iconic phrases in drinks lore: 'Shaken, not stirred'.

We set Bond's signature drinks order in context of when it first appears, who says it first and when it has played an important role in the plot.

Then, we sit down with Palazzi to discuss his origins in the bar industry, his insights into how cocktails have evolved over his half decade behind the stick, and gives us his personal anecdotes about serving some of the Bond actors.

He then shakes and stirs us some Martinis and we taste what the real difference is between these two ways of preparing 007s favourite cocktail.

  • Actor special - The drinks of our Bonds
    4 Oct 2026

Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note.

In our first 'Actor special' epsiode, we start none other than with the drinks associated with our Bond actors throughout the years, before, during and even after their turns as the iconic 007.

We have a laugh at David Niven's disastrous stint as a whisky salesman and covet Sean Connery's love of fine wines such as Vega Sicilia. We read about Roger Moore's penchant for a midday Bloody Mary and try and dig into Timothy Dalton's illusive private life,. And we explore Pierce Brosnan's affiliation with tequila and find out how Daniel Craig celebrated finding out he got the role of James Bond.

We also rank how much each actor drinks throughout their tenures as Bond, muse on who the next Bond could be and pick which actor we'd like most to go for a drink with.
