  • Dawn of the Dead: Zombies, Shopping Malls & '70s Mayhem
    Oct 30 2026

What happens when the zombie apocalypse hits and your best survival plan is moving into a shopping mall?Apparently, you go shopping. This week on Radness Rewind, Nick and I are revisiting George A. Romero's legendary 1978 horror classic, Dawn of the Dead!Well, technically, Nick is revisiting it. This was actually my first time watching the original Dawn of the Dead, and I was surprised by just how weirdly cheerful this movie could be.Between the zombies, the shopping sprees, the ridiculous biker gang, the surprisingly whimsical soundtrack and some absolutely fantastic practical effects, Dawn of the Dead is a fascinating look at how the modern zombie genre continued to develop after Night of the Living Dead.We discuss Peter, Roger, Stephen and Francine attempting to survive inside a shopping mall, Tom Savini's incredible makeup effects, the film's social commentary, the absurd decisions made during the apocalypse and the moments that made us wonder what the hell these characters were thinking. We also talk about how much zombie movies have changed over the decades, how Romero's films influenced The Walking Dead, and why Dawn of the Dead still deserves its place among the greatest zombie movies ever made.Despite its lengthy runtime and some questionable survival decisions, I really enjoyed watching this one for the first time. And next up? Day of the Dead (1985).Things are about to get a whole lot darker.🎬 Watch Radness Rewind on YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/@retroradfilms📅 New Radness Rewind episodes every Friday📚 New Goosebumps reviews every Monday⚡ New Shorts and clips throughout the weekSearch Retro Rad Wes on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and Facebook for more retro movies, nostalgia and entertainment!#DawnOfTheDead #GeorgeRomero #ZombieMovies #RadnessRewind #RetroRadWes

  • Phantasm: The Tall Man, Killer Spheres & Jawa Minions From Other Diminsions
    Oct 16 2026

I first watched Phantasm as a kid after spotting the VHS at a local video store in the ’90s.I remember finishing the movie and thinking, "I have no idea what just happened."So naturally, all these years later, Nick and I watched it again. And I still have no idea what happened. This week on Radness Rewind, we're diving into 1979's Phantasm, a bizarre mixture of horror, science fiction, supernatural weirdness, killer flying spheres, mysterious dwarfs, alternate dimensions and, of course, the Tall Man.The basic story involves a kid becoming suspicious of some very strange things happening around a funeral home. Before long, he's dealing with the Tall Man, deadly flying spheres, mysterious hooded creatures and a conspiracy involving corpses that's somehow even stranger than it sounds. Then Phantasm starts throwing alternate dimensions, crushing human bodies down into dwarf slaves, mysterious yellow blood, severed fingers turning into creatures, psychics and possible dream sequences into the mix. What the hell is happening? We don't know. But we're going through it anyway. And since apparently one Phantasm wasn't enough, we're heading into the sequels next.God help us.🎬 Watch Radness Rewind:https://www.youtube.com/@retroradfilms📅 New Radness Rewind episodes every Friday📚 New Goosebumps reviews every Monday⚡ New Shorts throughout the week#Phantasm #CultHorror #HorrorMovies #RadnessRewind #RetroRadFilms

  • Night of the Living Dead: The Movie That Changed Zombies Forever
    Oct 10 2026

Before The Walking Dead, 28 Days Later, Resident Evil and decades of zombie movies, there was Night of the Living Dead.

This week on Radness Rewind, Nick and I go back to 1968 to revisit George A. Romero's legendary Night of the Living Dead and talk about just how much of the modern zombie genre can be traced back to this movie.Barbara and her brother Johnny visit their father's grave when they're suddenly attacked by a mysterious man. Johnny is killed, Barbara escapes to an isolated farmhouse, and before long she meets Ben—who quickly realizes something is very wrong outside. The dead are getting back up. From there, we're talking boarded-up windows, people mysteriously hiding in the cellar, news broadcasts explaining the outbreak, questionable survival decisions, exploding trucks, zombies eating people, the Cooper family from hell and one of the bleakest endings in horror history. We also get into how Romero was still figuring out the rules of his creatures. They use objects, they're afraid of fire, some of them behave differently than the zombies we'd see in later movies, and the mythology audiences now take for granted was still being developed. And despite the low budget, there is a LOT here that works.Duane Jones is excellent as Ben, the confined farmhouse creates a great atmosphere, the characters constantly fighting among themselves keeps the tension high, and the black-and-white photography gives the entire movie an eerie quality that still works decades later. Some effects have definitely aged. And Barbara... Well... Barbara spends a lot of this movie looking like she mentally left the building several hours ago. But Night of the Living Dead is a classic for a reason. It's fascinating watching so many pieces of the modern zombie movie coming together before anyone really knew what the rules were supposed to be.Rest in peace, George Romero. This one's for you.🎬 Watch Radness Rewind:https://linktr.ee/retroradfilms📅 New Radness Rewind episodes every Friday📚 New Goosebumps reviews every Monday⚡ New Shorts throughout the week#NightOfTheLivingDead #GeorgeRomero #ZombieMovies #RadnessRewind #RetroRadFilms

  • Street Trash: Toxic Booze, Melting Bodies & Peak ’80s Trash
    Oct 10 2026

Wesley, Nick and special guest Lovely dive into Street Trash, the infamous 1987 cult movie where toxic Prohibition-era booze causes people to melt into brightly colored piles of goo.And somehow, that's one of the least insane things in this movie. What starts with a liquor-store owner discovering decades-old bottles of mysterious booze called Viper quickly turns into one of the strangest movies we've watched on Radness Rewind. There's a junkyard full of bizarre characters, Vietnam flashbacks, a completely unhinged villain, a rogue cop, melting bodies, exploding bodies, a game of keepaway that absolutely cannot be described here, and enough offensive material to get this movie canceled about 400 different ways. The weirdest part? The toxic alcohol that seems like it should be the entire plot disappears for huge portions of the movie and is never properly explained. But we have to give Street Trash credit for one thing: the practical effects are absolutely insane. Is it good? Is it terrible? Is it offensive? Is it a melt movie? Is it exploitation? Is it all of those things simultaneously?Probably.🎬 Watch Radness Rewind:https://www.youtube.com/@retroradfilms📅 New Radness Rewind episodes every Friday📚 Goosebumps reviews every Monday⚡ New Shorts throughout the week#StreetTrash #80sHorror #CultMovies #BodyHorror #PracticalEffects #HorrorMovies #80sMovies #RadnessRewind #RetroRadFilms

  • Chopping Mall: Killer Robots, Exploding Heads and Peak ’80s Cheese
    Oct 10 2026

Wesley and Nick review Chopping Mall, the gloriously ridiculous 1986 sci-fi horror movie about a group of young mall employees trapped inside after a team of high-tech security robots turns homicidal. After lightning damages the mall’s computer system, the supposedly nonlethal security robots become heavily armed murder machines equipped with lasers, explosives and enough military technology to conquer a small country. Unfortunately for the robots, the mall also contains everything a group of teenagers needs to fight back: a gun store, propane tanks, gasoline, paint supplies and plenty of questionable ’80s decision-making.We discuss exploding heads, color-coded lasers, robots somehow sneaking around on loud tank treads, teenagers raiding the mall gun store, Dick Miller disappearing almost immediately, inconsistent robot programming and the final survivor’s full Sarah Connor moment.Chopping Mall feels like Terminator, RoboCop, Dawn of the Dead and Short Circuit were thrown into a blender with every possible 1980s horror cliché. Unlike King Kung Fu, however, this is exactly the kind of ridiculous bad movie we wanted. Our verdict: definitely watch it.Watch Radness Rewind on YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/@retroradfilmsNew Radness Rewind episodes every Friday.New Goosebumps reviews every Monday.New Shorts throughout the week. The episode highlights the movie’s malfunctioning mall-security robots, heavily armed survivors, exploding-head effects, inconsistent laser damage and over-the-top final battle.#ChoppingMall #80sHorror #KillerRobots #CultHorror #HorrorMovies #BadMovies #RadnessRewind #RetroRadFilms

  • King Kung Fu: The Bizarre Kung Fu Gorilla Movie That Promoted Wichita
    Oct 10 2026

Wesley and Nick take on King Kung Fu, the bizarre low-budget comedy about a martial-arts-trained gorilla running loose through Wichita, Kansas. After being sent from China to the United States as a peace offering, King Kung Fu becomes the target of two desperate public-access reporters hoping to manufacture the biggest story of their careers. What follows is a strange collection of kung fu fights, gorilla puns, local businesses, Pizza Hut appearances, confused police officers, a John Wayne-obsessed sheriff, a hot-air balloon chase and some of the worst stop-motion effects we have ever seen. Was King Kung Fu an actual movie, an extended advertisement for Wichita or an unfinished production that should have remained on the shelf? We break down the entire plot, the terrible editing, the painfully long tourism sequence, the bizarre fantasy scene and the King Kong-inspired finale on top of the Holiday Inn.James Rolfe of Cinemassacre may have called it a fun bad movie, but Wesley and Nick strongly disagree. This was not entertaining trash. This was simply painful.Watch Radness Rewind on YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/@retroradfilmsNew Radness Rewind episodes every Friday.New Goosebumps reviews every Monday.New Shorts throughout the week.King Kung Fu is discussed throughout the transcript as a delayed-release gorilla comedy built around Wichita locations, local businesses, chaotic kung fu fights and an intentionally absurd King Kong-style ending.#KingKungFu #BadMovies #MovieReview #CultMovies #KungFu #KingKong #Wichita #ComedyPodcast #RadnessRewind #RetroRadFilms
