Ms. Addie Kitchen, Steven Taylor’s grandmother. Ms. Addie (as she is affectionately called in the community of San Leandro) worked in law enforcement for 30 years for the California Dept. of Corrections. She was assigned to San Quentin State Prison where she started as a correctional officer. Ms. Addie was promoted to Correction Sergeant and retired from the Department as a Correctional Counselor.

Addie Kitchen was a longtime resident of San Leandro. She raised her children and her grandson Steven Taylor in San Leandro. Steven attended high school in San Leandro and was beloved by many people there. His death has changed the community and ignited the community conversation about police accountability as much in 2025 as it did in 2020.
