Dive into Notes from Underground, Fyodor Dostoyevskys groundbreaking 1864 novella that many regard as the first existentialist novel. This compelling work unfolds through the fragmented memoirs of an unnamed and disillusioned narrator—known as the Underground Man—who reflects on his life as a retired civil servant in St. Petersburg. The first part of the narrative is a provocative monologue that critiques emerging Western philosophies, particularly Nikolay Chernyshevskys What Is to Be Done?. In the second part, titled Àpropos of the Wet Snow, we encounter poignant events that challenge and sometimes rejuvenate the Underground Man, who serves as an unreliable narrator, inviting readers to grapple with themes of isolation, identity, and the human condition.
