When the music fades, the memories remain. Mixtape Chronicles is a weekly interview show about the songs that became part of who we are—and the memories, relationships, and former versions of ourselves they reconnect us to. Each guest shares the soundtrack of their life through a carefully curated playlist (click here for the playlist channel) using music as the starting point for honest, funny, and deeply human conversations about growing up, finding our way, and becoming the people we are today. Each episode will allow you to time travel—with occasional stops at school dances, sleepovers, and the deeply personal decision of which song deserved Track 1. But the show isn’t all about the music. It’s about what the music gives us access to: the person we were before life became so busy, complicated, and disconnected. Sometimes, hearing the right song at the right moment is all it takes to bring a forgotten part of ourselves back into focus. In an on-demand world that constantly reminds us of what divides us, Mixtape Chronicles celebrates the memories, emotions, and experiences that bring us back to ourselves—and closer to one another.2026 Musik Politik & Regierungen Sozialwissenschaften

  • Dominique Vuvan: From Playing Music to Studying the Brain
    19 Oct 2026
What makes a song stick with us—the melody, the lyrics, or the memory attached to it? This week on Mixtape Chronicles, we look at one of the show’s biggest recurring questions through a new lens: neuroscience. Our guest is a psychologist, neuroscientist, and musician who studies music cognition, or how the human brain processes and responds to music. Her research explores what happens when we listen to a song, and how much our brains focus on the lyrics or on other aspects of the music. Together, we talk about music, memory, emotion, and how certain songs stay with us for decades—even if we’ve been confidently singing the wrong words since the first time we heard them. [Listen along to Dominique’s mixtape on Spotify] Guest Bio: Dominique Vuvan is a multi-genre multi-instrumentalist based in the NY Capital Region. She received her Ph.D. in Psychology with a certificate from the Program in Neuroscience from the University of Toronto. Currently, she is an Associate Professor in the Psychology Department and Neuroscience Program at Skidmore College. As a part of this work, she directs the Music and Cognition Laboratory, where she and her students investigate a variety of questions regarding how humans process music and its relation to language. Her mixtape includes tracks from the very first album she bought with her own money, to music that inspires the sound for her current band, Nice Hockey. • Ashley Salvadore: From Exotic Animal Owner to Professional Fun Pusher
    12 Oct 2026
What can a playlist reveal about the life that shaped us? This week’s guest was one of the early supporters of Mixtape Chronicles, serving on the panel for the Pitch Your Podcast contest with Bright Sighted Media. When she sent in her playlist, it was immediately clear: she understood the heart of this show. Her mixtape is filled with songs tied to joy, nostalgia, and unforgettable memories—but also music connected to some of the harder chapters of her life. Together, those tracks tell a much bigger story about where she’s been, what she’s carried with her, and the experiences that helped shape who she is today. In this episode, we talk about the songs that make us smile, the ones that are harder to revisit, and how music can help us make sense of the full journey—not just the highlight reel. [Listen along to Ashley’s mixtape on Spotify] Guest Bio: Ashley Salvadore is known regionally as the Capital Region Fun Pusher. If you follow her on social media, she inspires you to be a tourist in your own town, checking out all the latest restaurant openings, community events, and classic upstate NY hidden gems and activities. Ashley is a long-time supporter of women-owned businesses, and for the past 2 years has been the Creative Director of the New York Women’s Expo. She is a self-proclaimed “reformed party girl,” co-founding the Undrunk Club, organizing events for women with plenty of tasty mocktails and fun activities to do. She is married to the 2-time National Mullet Champion and together they are parents to a mini Australian Shepherd named Grace. • Kim Neaton: From DJ to Land Steward
    5 Oct 2026
What happens when the thing you were obsessed with as a kid becomes your career? This week on Mixtape Chronicles, we explore what it means to turn a lifelong passion into something real. Growing up, Kim Neaton spent hours scanning radio stations, watching Behind the Music on VH1, and becoming fascinated not only by the bands she loved, but by the music industry happening behind the scenes. That curiosity eventually became a career spanning more than a decade in radio, concert promotion, and live music—bringing her closer to the artists, venues, and local music community she had once admired from the other side of the speakers. Through the songs on her mixtape, we talk about childhood passions, creative careers, live music, and what can happen when the things that capture our imagination early in life help point us toward where we’re meant to go in the future. Guest Bio: Kim Neaton is a lifelong resident of the Capital Region and has been an absolute champion of the local music scene for over a decade. Many know her from being a dj on the local radio station WEQX hosting both EQXposure and The Dead Zone. Kim was also the Marketing and Promotions Assistant for Guthrie/Bell Promotions and continues to work with founder Greg Bell to put on shows such as the Eastbound Throwdown. After over a decade working in radio and concert production, she chose to follow a new path that allows her to dedicate her time to preserving our beautiful local lands and waters with the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy as a Conservation Steward. Kim lives in Valley Falls with her husband, dog, cat, and flock of chickens, and still spends much of her free time seeing live music. Kim brings with her a mixtape full of songs from local bands as well as ones from childhood she still listens to. Show Notes: Kim’s Mixtape on Spotify Stay connected for all of Kim’s upcoming events!
