    We keep mistaking authority for leadership, but a title only buys compliance. It cannot command the things leadership actually runs on: engagement, judgment, initiative, consent. What a leader owes the people who agreed to be led is a goal worth reaching, one they could have chosen, and an honest answer for it, which is why you can hit the target and still betray them.
