Inspired Authority is a podcast for high performers who know they’re capable of more—but are done waiting to be chosen.

Hosted by Laura Colón, sales leader, mentor, and founder of Inspired Authority, this show challenges the idea that titles, validation, or external recognition define success.

Because they don’t.

Most people don’t have a talent problem.

They have an ownership problem.

Each episode breaks down what it actually takes to build authority from the inside out—through identity, discipline, and intentional action.

You’ll hear real conversations, unfiltered insights, and practical frameworks on leadership, career growth, personal standards, and what it means to take full ownership of your life.

This isn’t about motivation.

It’s about operating differently.

If you’ve ever felt under-positioned…

if you’re ready to stop shrinking and start showing up with clarity…

if you want to become undeniable in the rooms you walk into—

This is for you.

You don’t wait for authority.

You build it.

  • You're Not Trapped - You're One Decision Away
    Aug 25 2026

Today's guest spent over three decades in corporate leadership before becoming a career ownership coach — and the line that stuck with me most from our conversation was this: most of us aren't actually trapped, we just don't know it yet.

Allen and I talk about the Saturday morning breakdown that changed everything for him, why fear (which he defines as "false evidence appearing real") keeps so many successful people stuck in lives that don't serve them, and what it actually means to take ownership of your career instead of optimizing yourself for someone else's goals.

    Key Takeaways

    • You're one decision away from a radically different life
    • Fear is false evidence appearing real: Instead of treating fear as a stop sign, Allen teaches turning it into a question, "where's that coming from?", which disarms it and turns it into useful information instead of a wall.
    • The fastest way to de-risk any big decision is objective information: Most people assume the worst-case outcome without ever testing whether their fear is actually founded in reality.
    • "Safety" in a W2 job is often an illusion
    • Career ownership starts with one question: If you earned twice as much and worked half the hours, what would you actually do with the rest of your time?

  • The Sustainability Gap: Why Burnout Isn't a Personal Failure, with Laura Gent Felker
    Aug 18 2026

Today's guest has spent her career helping organizations make better decisions through data — but what I admire most is how she's turned that same curiosity toward one of the biggest leadership challenges of our time: burnout.

Laura Gent Felker is an enterprise data and AI strategist, leadership advocate, health coach, and author of "The Sustainability Gap," a white paper built from direct interviews with high-achieving women about why they're breaking, leaving, and rebuilding their careers.

We talked about the difference between resilience and sustainability, the invisible systems inside organizations that quietly push people toward burnout, what it really means to become a mom and lose (then rebuild) your identity, and why AI should never be in the pilot's seat.

    Key Takeaways

    • Resilience has a shelf life: Pushing through a hard season is fine — but staying in fight-or-flight mode indefinitely leads to real health problems like migraines, anxiety, and autoimmune issues.
    • Burnout is structural, not personal: The "invisible load" that builds after having kids doesn't fit neatly into most corporate structures unless real boundaries and support are in place.
    • There's no single "burned out mom" story: Interviews for the white paper surfaced totally different paths — some burned out and stayed, some paused, some built something new.
    • AI belongs in the co-pilot seat, not the pilot seat: Leaders need to stay at the helm, prompting thoughtfully and reviewing output critically, rather than blindly trusting AI to do the thinking.
    • A "village" comes in three forms: in-person, virtual, and paid support — and paid help isn't a failure, it's a legitimate part of making it all work.
    • Moving from victimhood to agency is a mindset shift: When life throws something unexpected, the question becomes "what's in my control right now?" rather than "why is this happening to me?"

  • Reduce the Drain, Increase the Joy - How to Build a Life You Actually Love
    Aug 13 2026

"You don't think your way into becoming the person you want to be. You become that person by practicing being them. One decision at a time." – Laura Colon

This week I'm going solo again to build on last episode's introduction to Inspired Authority. If last week was about what the framework is, this episode is about what it actually looks like to live it — day to day, decision by decision. I walk through my own story of hitting every marker of traditional success (VP by 35, two houses before 30, a marriage I'm proud of) while realizing I had stopped designing my life and started just surviving it.

One of the biggest shifts for me was realizing that ambition and exhaustion don't have to be a package deal. I used to measure results by what I could accumulate — the promotion, the paycheck, the next goal. Now I measure it by what my life is actually producing: Am I happy? Am I proud of who I'm becoming? Are the people around me better because I'm in their lives? That shift changed everything about how I spend my time and energy, and it's what eventually leads to the biggest idea in this episode — that the real goal isn't building a great life for yourself, it's building something through your life that multiplies beyond you.

    Key Takeaways:

    • Why reconnecting with who you were before the world told you what was "realistic" is the starting point for designing an intentional life.
    • How to catch the stories keeping you small — and the one question that creates space to change them.
    • The real difference between confidence and courage, and why presence means bringing your full self into the room.
    • Why influence has nothing to do with titles and everything to do with being useful.
    • A practical framework for protecting your energy: reduce what's draining you, increase what brings you joy.
